Se matriculó en la Academia de Bellas Artes de Modena en el año de 1872 con Antonio Simonazzi siendo muy joven. Fue alumno de Adeodato Malatesta y discípulo con Gaetano Bellei. Después de ganar el Premio Poletti para la pintura en 1880, tiene la oportunidad de estar 3 años en Roma y un año en Florencia, estableciendose en Florencia el año 1884 definitivamente, abriendo su estudio en "Via Della Robbia", realizando en este estudio las producciones de obras pictóricas ligadas a escenas donde se aprecian retratos y paisajes de caracter rural.
Sus obras pictóricas bien acogidas, en su tiempo, recibieron numerosos encargos especialmente en Italia, Estados Unidos de América, Canadá y Australia, la maestría de color y la habilidad en plasmar emociones memorables en sus figuras,principalmente en su estudio con la ayuda de modelos en traje de campesino, o el vestido de la gente común.
Fue proclamado miembro honorario de la Academia de Modena Italia por su talento en la pintura.
