The M2 Max Mac Studio Will Cost $2499

... or not exist?

The Mac Studio debuted with the M1 Max and M1 Ultra chip options in March of 2022, and Apple hasn't yet updated it to the M2 generation of chips. But if and when they do, they have no choice but the raise the price by at least 10% if not more, and here's why.

Now, I'm not going to be talking about leaked rumors or anything like that. This analysis is done completely by factual observations about Apple's pricing strategy. By looking at what Apple has done up until now with the M1 and M2 generation products, we can figure out how an M2 update to the Mac Studio will be priced.

Logical analysis. Now let's just hope that they MAKE the damn thing. I've been holding out to see if they do the M2 Max Studio. I'm a music producer, so the Mac Mini M2 Pro is likely powerful enough for me, but by the time I add RAM for sound libraries and storage for the convenience of not having to deal with so many external drives, it's already at the Mac Studio M1 price level. Apple has made a weird situation here for "pro/creative" users.

i got my first apple computer in 1996: a power mac 7500: came stock with a 500mb drive: cost $500 to upgrade to a 1 gb drive ... that's a dollar a mb ... much better prices on current hd upgrades ;]

This is one of the best factual comparisons I have seen that your logic makes 100% sense on the pricing strategy. If and when apple releases an M2Max Studio (and I really hope they do) that it is VERY plausible the pricing you've predicted will be spot on. Thanks for the brilliant comparison. Have you considered creating a cross reference matrix of how the overlap in model "step ups" and features to explain this using visuals? I followed your video quite easily but I'm sure that if there was a way to represent this data in a cross reference table that it would be SUPER easy to follow for for the not so well informed mac enthusiasts. I've been pondering on the mac studio for nearly a month now and still lean towards a mac studio m1max base config over a Mac mini M2pro that's been upgraded to match the specs of the mac studio. Not surprisingly, if specs are matched like for like the M2Pro mini comes in at over $200 CAD more than the comparable M1Max Studio - this is already using education discount pricing so in the full retail pricing model the difference is even more.

Just build a $1000 PC and you'll have similar performance. Don't use non-cross platform software.
