I don’t comment much, this channel really pushes me forward mentally, I realize I am afraid of failure, one college courses I failed derailed my progress to be a professional coder for years, during the COVID I had the opportunity to jump back and graduated.
Now it’s all on me to develop a demo website full-stack so I can get a decent job the pressure I feel is scary, but I need to push forward .
I’m learnings Vue btw

I'm making some breakthroughs after a long plateau! Persistence [mental] is extremely important as you say. My advice - don't give up, you may just need a long break - I am back from one and feel like I'm crushing it all of a sudden - relatively speaking, of course. Kudos Stef, thanks!

True. Fear leads to avoidance, and avoidance is how you waste your life. It should be illegal.

It's pretty crazy how many different opinions there are on how long to code each day while learning. I've heard anything from 20 min to 4 hours every day. I think I'm getting to the opinion that you should probably try and test or evaluate yourself every couple weeks and see how you do. It could be some other way to evaluate but if you aren't making progress maybe more time is needed.

When I was teaching software development, the #1 obstacle was lack of focus. Coding requires long periods of intense focus. Of course everyone needs breaks, but if you can focus on the problem day and night, even while away from your computer, that's how you create software.

This idea is applicable to anything that you may want to learn or do.

I have been following you for last two years. Its very inspirational whenever you come and shares your experience. I'm also a teacher and Institution owner and I am always been focused to learn practically with why, when and where questions and now I feel very easy with every programing language. Thank you.

He speaks a lot of truth this Stefan guy. Get some balls and don't be afraid to make mistakes and break other peoples code. You must take risks and try things out in code. Just writing the code gives insight into the problem that you would not have otherwise got, then you iterate your code toward a good enough solution. Never mind all this 'agile' bollocks, this is how real developers have always worked. Also, lessons learned in anger stick with you. You have got to get into complex issues under time pressure, and this is where you learn your trade. Also, don't be afraid to delete code and start again.

I Really wish I'd known you, personally, 20 years ago.

Uncle Stef is super, just been following his advice, learnt to code in robot framework for my work, trying to write simple code, refactor it, use existing libraries etc, etc, so now able to think how to automate use cases programmatically and in the process fear of failure has receded and confidence to code increased. :)

🖖 “Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

With lots of info on the web it can definitely be hard for a beginner to find the right course. Going through an entire course only to be more frustrated and confused in the end is the worst. Luckily, as we all learn we can pass down information in a more productive and positive way. Failure = learning

What you are saying is true from my own point of view, many of these courses on YouTube are done by some guys who have no teaching skills at all. I guess coding is a mind set as you said fear spoils everything.

I heard this one time a very good quote, " if you never fail, it just means you never tried." You are so right not everyone can teach. And there alot of garbage videos on youtube.
