I'm NOT a professional painter, but I am attempting to paint the inside of my house. I'm thankful that people, such as yourself, are putting painting hacks/how to-s out there for us non professional, not getting paid to paint people! Base boards/trim piss me off, so anytime I see a way I haven't tried, I keep it in mind, try it the next time I paint my trim, and see how it works. Thanks!

I been painting for awhile now and I never thought of that quite simple less time consuming and automatically straight with no drips awesome 💯👊🏽

Great tip, the trick to this is to slightly tilt the knife down so it doesn't touch the top seam of the baseboard

Everyone has a different way to paint a room these days. Over the years I’ve tried many ways to be efficient and the one thing that worked was elevating my baseboard taping. I use blue frog tape for a bleed proof application. Everything else can be freehand cut and whizz rolled to minimize brush lines and when I do my first roll, I won’t have to cut in the base a second time because I can bring the roller all the way down. I have the skills to use a brush but I don’t always need to prove it because time is money. When you can finish an average room in 2-3 hrs at a rate of $350 per room, use the best method that will work for you in order to get the best results. People pay for my professionalism to make it look fantastic and better than they could have attempted; they really don’t care how I get to the end and I value the customer enough to use the best products and methods so that I get repeat clients and referrals which means a lot to me👌🏽

This never works cleanly. Always leaks through

Like a pro. Looks simple but a lot of people would still mess that up.

That’s a cool hack and I’ve done this plenty of times from 2 decades of working in painting, but sometimes it doesn’t leave it perfect.

I don’t suggest using something like that. Paint will make it self under the liner tool and get on the baseboard. Make sure the baseboards are clean, run blue or yellow masking tape and get a clean line after making sure the tape is fully pushed down on the line side. Don’t use too much paint or it will bleed through the tape edge. I just do it with a brush and comes out clean every time

Gradually the amount of paint would build up on the tool so the further down the skirting you get, although a very tiny amount, the wall on the paint would gradually get further away from the top of the skirting. Be hard to see unless looking very very close but it would happen unless you wiped the tool clean occasionally.

Brilliant! I’m painting now and will try this!

Tour trim isnt protected. Splatter and drips WILL get on your trim doing it this way. Just tape and use a brush with minimal paint on it so paint doesnt run down behind the tape. You dont have to be careful and you can move very quickly.

They sell a 3 foot tool just for this... i bought it and it only works on new construction...the older homes where the baseboards are not straight becomes a nuisance.
Also use very little paint otherwise you have to keep wiping all the excess off constantly.
Ive never tried it with the mini roller tho.... ill keep this in mind on my next painting project 👍🏼

Remember : keep a damp rag (old thin white shirt piece is best) close by. In case of paint bleed onto the top of the baseboard - then use the rag, wrapped tight over a finger nail, and run it along the top of the baseboard (staying away from the wall) to create the “fine finish.

i use to do this for when painting quarter round trim so it didnt get on the floor but honestly just mask it with tape much faster then cutting in and getting drips on the fresh white trim still people dont understand this is how you get consistent finishes with no mistakes good hack defiantly worth the extra 10 mins people are so quick too judge half of them cut in and have splash marks or drips on the base board

This is a great tip this, have a cutting in brush for the top, this will be great for skirting

That still leads to tiny drips, I just use a cutting brush

I’ve worked for my father in law for a few years painting and for us it’s always been quicker to tape the baseboards and run a brush down the tape while cutting in. It saves the time of having to actually make a line on the baseboard instead you can just use the tape to make your line the tape also protects the top of the baseboard from any drips or splashes from the roller
