What you didnt mention and should have mentioned is that the US is one of only 4 countries in the world who taxes their citizens no matter where they live or where they make their income. So the obvious reason the US is rejecting renunciation of US citizenship is to keep weathly international businessman from escaping this always/everywhere tax system.

The solution to the question about why you're renouncing is to say that you disagree with the politics of the United States and no longer wish to be associated with the country. Don't mention taxes at all. If they ask, just say you want to avoid the compliance hassles of being a US citizen.

The way I see it, if you are an average US citizen with average income, and they won't let you renounce, just get a second citizenship. If you never intend to go back to the US, just let your US passport expire and never get another one (most Americans don't have one anyhow). Just walk away from the drama, if they don't want to comply.

That's really messed up not right at all. I feel like this would prompt MORE people to want to renounce their US citizenship especially due to how unfair the US is being governed. Supposedly the land of the free.

When they ask you why you're renouncing never mention money.

Always mention a legal obligation for renunciation, be it one codified into some state's Citizenship Act or a contractual obligation specific to you or whatever works.

This is true, the Jerusalem embassy is not allowing citizens to renounce. But many are flying to Cyprus or Malta and not having any issues.

My thinking is, get an Caribbean passport for backup and work towards an EU passport, like a Portugal or Malta and then you’ll have coverage in almost every single inch of the world the same time being protected
