Interestingly, I rode the new XSR900 and MT10 SP (new gen) the same day back to back. MT10 SP was first and I noticed it was massively better than the old gen. For reference, I test rode the old gen twice and didn't like it at all. The new gen has much better tech, cool intake noise, comfortable, SP suspension felt good, up/down quickshifter was nice but still felt heavy and cumbersome to me. Hopped on the XSR900 and everything felt tighter and more direct. More playful, less bulky, still very comfortable, stock exhaust has a nice note to it, tech just as good as the MT10, and I liked the look better. Outside of the additional power and possibly a little more comfort for long distance touring, I saw no reason to go for the MT10 over the XSR900.

I love the XSR900's looks. That classic headlamp style will never not be amazing

I have an xsr700 and I absolutely love it. I would have to go with the xsr900 because that's my style of styling for a bike. I also love the way the triple sounds.

I love my 2022 Mt-09 SP! 99.9% of the bike is so good, that the little bit of a fidgity menu wheel doesn't even come into play.

2023 Blue XSR here.. Thrilled with mine.. went Big Bagger for a few years, so great to be on such an agile and quick bike! The Engine/Frame integration is total genius.. a glorius chunk of black. No Fins.. 3 cylinders is narrower than 4.. very compact.. just about perfect. My 3 cylinder 2 cycle H2 was wider with the fins. A 4 cylinder was very wide with fins. The Quick Shifter really is Yamaha's crowning achievement here. This is the "App" like adaptive cruise control and lane keeping. Absolute perfection. automatic transmissions in performance cars are OBSOLETE now. The new mustang has "Rev Matching", but you STILL use the Clutch! Totally missed the boat.. For sure requires a new manual transmission, but we don't need no stinkin' over complicated Dual Clutch crap. Easy half a second in the quarter (In a car).

Mannn I feel that, I landed on the XSR after test driving everything else in it's category. After a disappointing ride with the Thruxton RS, I couldn't stop thinking about the XSR. It's my rider life now 😎

XSR 900 has my vote. The lack of wind protection on a naked bike doesn’t bother me unless I do more than 20 mins on the highway. Which isn’t where I want to ride regardless of wind protection. Multi day trips with my buddies where we spend most of our day between 30-80mph on back roads, I’ve never wished I had wind protection. I ride a Triumph Speed Twin 1200 and I ride it rather spiritedly (Ohlins suspension helps).

Heavier & more stable really is the bottom line. I first rode my 2020 mt10 and was amazed @ how smooth & comfortable it is! Then I started exploring that engine! Eargasmic! Totally! I have a Yosh can on it and am putting a link pipe on with a 2wdw flashed ecu! Can't effin'wait! You should keep both, that 900 is a loker!

Great video and thoughts, as usual! The windscreen on the MT-10 and the storage are game changers. I love the looks of the XSR, but for a daily rider I'd agree that the MT-10 is the way to go.

Great comparison Chase. Its good to see two different bikes being discussed and compared. Too often Reviewers only compare bikes in the identical class. I was looking at an MT10 or a Ducati Supersport 950s completely different machines. was a hard choice and I still wish I had both!

OC-Right with you brother on that already customized CP4. The sound alone makes hairs stand up and split... Bring on the muscle car vibes...

I have your bike’s “Dad”, the 2nd gen FZ1. Has 90k miles and I beat it hard, never misses a beat. Going to rebuild an engine/tranny then add a supercharger instead of getting a new bike. I already had to replace the frame so we’re bonded by blood sweat and tears now lol can never sell her, but I love the mt-10… except the way it looks. To me it’s the biggest tragedy in motorcycles

OC: Get a polarised sheet for your screen man. I have the gen 2MT09 and yeah screen does look like an old game boy. But there's alot of options with polarised sheets and you can make that screen look alot better!!

MT-10 would be my pick. That crossplane inline 4 with cruise control is just what I like.

I have owned my stock MT10 for nearly 2 years and absolutely love it, been a massive seller for Yamaha here in the UK, however as you stated the lighter flickable XSR 900 is on my wish list think it may be more suited to my riding ability, tough decision would be nice to have both lol, Cheers Chase.

I like both bikes, and decided the XSR was a better choice for me. I have the FJR1300 for touring and commuter when needed. So a sporty, around town and weekend blasts w/friends seems the logical way to go w/ this new gem. IF, I didn't have the bigger bike also? Probably would've went w/ the MT10.

I wouldn’t let my MT-10 go anytime soon. But I do like the looks of this XSR. Maybe after a year when more custom parts are available or is been tested more, I’ll consider check a trade. For now I’ll keep my MT-10 :). Thank you for posting this kind or reviews man, it does helps us riders to keep up with models and gives us enough info to have conversations about it. Keep posting them brotha

Had a 2022 XSR900 and I just could not live with the seat, after an hour I was done, swapped it for an MT09 and I love that bike

Just bought a brand new XSR900, but I would have loved to test drive the MT-10 to feel the difference. I can’t speak to which one I would prefer but coming from a 1000cc BMW (RnineT), I absolutely LOVE the XSR900!

I have never owned a motorcycle with a windscreen. I figure as long as I keep it that way, I won't know what I'm missing and can continue long-hauling naked bikes.
