Over the past few weeks we've looked at a number of different topics, including why German tanks are named after large cats, and also why British tanks are named after words with the letter C. In a slightly different video, today we're looking at how British Military aircraft named? You'd be surprised as it's actually more complex than you'd think and the different planes have different categories of names based on their use.

During the Second World War, the most famous and iconic British aircraft has to be the Spitfire. This fighter gained it's name from a rather interesting source, but since the First World War there has been tradition in naming aircraft and planes. In this video, we look at why Heavy Bomber aircraft such as the Lancaster Bomber are named after towns, why certain maritime patrol boats are named after explorers and also we look an aircraft deployed by the Royal Navy to see what their pattern is when naming aircraft. Also we look briefly at the V-Bombers such as the Vulcan, and many different other classes of the planes deployed by the Royal Air Force. So join us today as we look at 'How are British Military Aircraft named?'
