Happy Energy Founder and CEO, Adrian Wright explains what a biomass boiler is, what the benefits are and how to make the Renewable Heat Incentive work for you.

Free Commercial Biomass Boiler

Happy Energy is offering free wood pellet commercial biomass boilers with free servicing and maintenance for the next 20 years!

If you currently heat your commercial property with oil or LPG and spend £15,000 or more on heat, you may be able to take advantage of this free boiler which will save you up to 30% on your heating and hot water bills. We can do this because biomass boilers receive money through the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), so we take the RHI and you get a free boiler worth around £150,000 with lower running costs and CO2 emissions!

Our free commercial biomass boiler is ideal for:

• Farms and food processing where heat and hot water are required
• Holiday cottage complexes and district heating
• Private schools and academies*
• Hotels and large guest houses
• Care homes
• Swimming pools and leisure facilities

*sorry we can't offer free boilers to state managed schools

Ask us about the benefits of a free Happy Energy biomass boiler:

• Cut your heat bills by 20-30%
• Reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80%
• No need to pay to replace aging boilers
• No on-going service and maintenance costs
• Go Green and save money!

The process

1. Happy Energy will ask you to complete a simple questionnaire about your property which will tell us about the amount of fuel you currently use and give us some background to your company
2. We will undertake a basic desktop survey, which may include looking at your premises on Google Earth. If it appears suitable we will visit your property to carry a full survey
3. If all goes well, we will ask you to sign an agreement, leasing us a small area of land outside on which to install the biomass cabin. This agreement will contain a clause which will mean you will be obliged to use the boiler for a minimum number of hours/year to ensure we earn the minimum RHI amount required to cover the cost of the boiler.
4. The boiler will be installed and we will switch your existing system over to our new boiler

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can you offer a free boiler?
A: Happy Energy receives payments under the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) and we use these payments to cover the cost of installing the boiler (typically around £150,000) and the on-going servicing and maintenance

Q: What happens to my existing boilers?
A: Usually we leave your existing boilers in place so that they can be used as a back up or to supplement the heat from our new wood pellet boiler

Q: What about buying fuel?
A: We are happy for you to buy your own wood pellets, there are a number of companies locally who can deliver them and they are blown in from a vehicle the size of an oil tanker. You will need to buy a certain grade of wood pellet and provide us with copies of the bills to prove this.

Q: Who empties the ash?
A: We ask you to empty the ash from the boiler, which will need to be done around once a month. The quantity of ash will be very small and can be used as fertiliser on gardens or disposed of with normal rubbish once cooled

Q: Do I have to use the boiler?
A: As part of the terms of our offer you will need to use the boiler for a minimum number of hours, if you don't, there will be an amount you will need to pay us but we will always carry out a thorough survey to make sure that your current heat requirement will more than cover this minimum

Q: Can any business get a free biomass boiler?
A: Our free commercial biomass boiler offer will be subject to survey and we do carry out some financial checks on the business to make sure that the boiler is likely to be used for 20 years. You will need ample space for us to install our biomass cabin near to your existing heating system and for fuel delivery vehicles to get access

Q: How much do wood pellets cost?
A: The wood pellets are around £200 per tonne which equates to around 4.5 pence per kWh compared to oil and LPG which costs 6 pence or more and electricity at 10 pence or more depending on how much you buy

Q: How reliable are wood pellet boilers?
A: Happy Energy installs a very high quality Austrian boiler that has an excellent record for reliability. We will monitor the boiler remotely so in the unlikely event that a repair is needed in between normal servicing visits, we will probably have it completed before you even know that there is an issue
