I think he's afraid to come out to her because he knows she'll shame him, disrespect him and treat him like less than a man.. He might be also scared of how he would look in the eyes of his son. So he probably wants his sexuality to be his secret for the rest of his life.. but uses their little break ups to get to free himself a bit with men before hopping back into his reality of playing husband and daddy. He's scared to come out.. and she doesn't seem to be the type to make it easy for him.
