While taking a day trip to Galveston Island, I heard the scanner light up for a couple trains to use the lift bridge to enter the island. I tried out this fishing spot at 89th Street under I-45 to get a video of the bridge, then went to the yard to finish up the video.

Why is Texas such a cool, yet underrated state to railfan?

Damn. I went to Galveston over the summer. As we were driving back, I saw oil cans heading north across the bridge—4 engines, leader LHF. Asked my dad to stop at the fishing spot (as they weren’t even to the bridge yet and we were at the end). Nope. Gotta get back to the hotel before the pool closes at 10.

Well, 4 hours, 3 restaurants, 6 wrong turns and a broken GPS later, we got back to the hotel.

Pool was closed.

Shoulda stopped for the LHF leader.
