Before I began watching football, I only knew R9, Beckham, Ronaldinho, Henry, and the guy with the badass glasses.

I remember..Edgar Davids being a tough defensive midfielder..He along with AC Milan's Gattuso..was considered one of the strongest defensive midfielders in Serie A.. He didn't like jokes about his glasses and got into a few fights defending himself..including one where he threw a punch...

His look is so iconic Davids sued Riot Games from ripping it off without his consent

He was a powerhouse on the field, running tirelessly, pressuring opponents in midfield, always on the edge of committing fouls (earning quite a few cards). His left foot had a powerful shot, and with more technical finesse than the typical defensive player, he utilized his speed and dribbling ability. However, he was somewhat overshadowed by teammates like Zidane, Nedved, and Del Piero in that aspect. One could describe him as a more skillful and offensive version of Gattuso. With dreads and stylish glasses, he complemented Seedorf well in the Dutch national team, both tactically and aesthetically. Only Arnold Schwarzenegger could rival those two.

They forgot the part where they had to first seek permission from FIFA to wear them. That's another story.

As I kid I never knew his name, but I wore glasses and loved football so seeing someone who wears glasses like him playing was like the most amazing thing to me when I was a kid

absolute Juve legend, best years of his incredible career...and yet strangely omitted from this video 😅 no mention of Juve or any pics of him in a Juve kit 🤣 next let us do a video about Beckham and only mention Madrid and Milan...

You didn’t touch the reason. The reason was that Ajax played friendly match during 94/95 season before a UCL match (the season Ajax would win yea). Because their pitch had to much snow to play in Eredevise they had no match during the weekend. Louis Van Gaal wanted to keep the players in form so he tried to find a team to play a friendly with. They played a team from Serbia forgot name. That team didn’t play like it was a friendly and played very tuff. So tuff that one played poked David’s in the eye.

The result of this was that his eye was about to explode. Then what you’re saying is the rest of the story.

I wonder what he did when he had to play in the rain. I wear glasses and cant imagine wearing them in the rain unless i had a cap on.

I remember reading somewhere that one of the reasons he kept the glasses was to inspire children that needed glasses to believe they could still play the sport despite the need for glasses
