Is This Our Famous Russian Master's Inspiration?

Sijo Victor might have been inspired by a style of martial arts that was already practiced in Russia in the 1890s. Big shoutout to viewer Man In A Chair for finding the segment from the Lumiere Brothers and showing it to this channel. Also, the footage might actually be from France and not Russia. Either way, it's a timeless piece of history. Watch and compare. Is our Victor's Tiger Mantis Bagua Choriok inspired by that old Russian style of dance martial arts (or maybe French Savate)? Leave a comment and share your thoughts. Also, send us more footage to analyze and explore!

That video is of a french Chasseur Alpin regiment practicing savate in 1898. It's part of a longer video of "french boxing in the military "

Since the first film was made in 1896 it is impossible that the “Russian” footage that you’re showing were actually taken in 1890. Considering the grain of this archive, the flow of the image and the fashion of the instructor (the man with a moustache) I would say that it was made between 1910 and 1920 and most probably not in Russia but in the south of France. Why France? For several reasons:
• The flora in the background and the stones are typical from the Provence or the Alps region.
• The men are wearing boots and berets, which was usually associated with the military group: the Alpine Hunters (les chasseurs alpins).
• French people have practiced the martial art called Savate also known as Boxe Française (French boxing) since the 19th Century and this video represents a warm up.
As for our favourite “Russian Master”, I think he’s just seen too many action/kung-fu movies and has never fought in a ring or anywhere else otherwise he would know how inefficient his “techniques” (moves) are.

Victor was actually the one teaching the class in 1890. Russian Kung Fu has made him immortal!

Its the great Spirit that gives him this unbelievable smooth Bodycontrol! If u come near the Screen you see his burning Aura flashing around his whole Body... i think he mastered the Fist of the Northstar AND the Art of the southern Cross! I play his Vids only in slowmotion because i fear his Energyfield will damage my Screen!!!

No. That isn't the same style. I don't even think it's his inspiration for his own style. The movements of those old Russian dudes are refined and look as though they could actually deliver decent strikes. Victor moves like a drunk hobo trying to imitate Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Also, the movements are just different in general. The old style looks smoother and less jerky, and with a greater emphasis on jumping about, while Victor's style has all these weird arm movements and poses. I'd be willing to bet money he just made it up over a long time spent watching kung fu movies and drinking himself half blind.

Amazing find, yes that would have been some army under the Czar's forces and at that time the Tibetans even had a school of medicine open in Moscow. During that period there was a lot of mixing of cultures and Russians discuss "styles" that no longer exist on their own but are now just a part of Systema post-Sovietization of the society.
