I wouldn't actually say that mariano is stealing a living because he was literally brought back after being very successful in France, also coupled with the fact that benzema became a beast over the last few years. I would say that he was unfortunate to be honest, i mean the same could be said with Jovic as well. They just couldn't fit in properly

Those players signed a contract and they are entitled to that money under that contract, it's a double edge sword when a player is contracted, if they become deadwood in the team, it's difficult for the club to sell, but for the deadwood player his stock might decline as they might have to take a step down to a smaller club to get minutes on the pitch and bigger clubs would consider him to be damaged goods
