I Sold My 13900K for a 7800X3D - 1 Year Later
Over a year ago I sold my Intel Core i9 13900K and platform to switch over to the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D and AM5 platform, but why did I do it, and was it worth it, or was it a waste of money... Let's talk about it.

Sorry but 13th 14th gen Intel are having a very high failure rate with some system builders reporting 100% failure on multiple batch orders...best stay away from intel until this gets resolved.

Those with 5800x3d and 7800x3d just made proper future proof purchase, very good. And now lots of AM4 motherboards perhaps someone with a 3600x can just upgrade to a somewhat cheap 5700x3d if supported. It's brilliant.

Turns out all the 13/14900k Intel chips are failing, you may have dodged a bullet.

Now that we are finding out the 13th and 14th gen are dieing, I'm sure you are glad.

Very weird experience. I have built now 5 PCs with 7800x3D and not one has had any of the issues you mention.
- No problems with ram kits
- No long boot times
- All worked great with all core undervolting in PBO curve optimizer negative 30. They all got to or beyond the advertised clock speed.

My nephew was an Intel fanboy, I built his AM5 system and he changed his mind instantly and he wished changed before..

Intel has somehow turned into Bulldozer FX series, but also somehow way worse.

Made the switch to AM5 and got a 7950X3D to replace my failing 14900k. Much better experience. Faster gaming performance and barely a drop in multithreading performance. I believe I was having latency issues as well, numerous tasks on my PC are noticeably faster. The best part is the power draw, games draw 40-60w vs 120-180w on intel.

Yeah I started with the 7800 x3d, I was able to get 64 gigabytes to work at 6000 really easily. Maybe I was kind of lucky, make sure to buy AMD compatible branded ram, and my mag Tomahawk works just fine

never have any start issues, I can honestly say my 7800x3d and am5 experience has been flawless

The crackling sound in the audio is due to the FCLK giving errors, perhaps because you have too much voltage on the CPU SoC or because you have too much OC to FCLK. You don't need more than 1.2 volts on the SOC to have 6000 in memory. My 7800x3d keeps 6000 in memory with 1.15 easily

Smart move.

One tip: you cannot just enable "Memory Context Restore", you also need to enable "Power down enable" Those two goes together!

The issue with i9 13th and 14th gen is the high voltage call in the VID table for the 2 preferred cores. P cores, E cores and ring share the same rail, so when those two cores call for ridiculously high voltage, everything on the rail gets exposed, which over time causes degradation. How long it takes depends on many factors, including silicon quality. If you have a 13th or 14th gen i9, and have not suffered stability issues yet, set BIOS to enforce Intel limits, set long and short PL to 238 watts, set amps to 307, and lock all cores to 5.7 (14th) or 5.6 (13th), and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the report. Glad to hear that you've not had major problems. I'm using Ryzen 7950x paired with a 64GB DDR5-5600 Kingston Fury Beast memory kit. No problems with the RAM whatsoever. It worked first time with the built in XMP profile. I even overclocked the RAM to 6400 C30 and it works just fine, giving me a nice boost and reduced latency. I'm pretty happy with the performance. I was deciding between the 13900k and the 7950x when building this PC more than a year ago. Looks like I dodged a bullet here!

I'm still on AM4 and decided to upgrate to a 5700 X3D from an 3600. What a difference!

Under volt is the new overclock. I have had awesome results on AMD with -5 or so offset.

I'll be upgrading my 13700k to the new 9000 series . Looking forward to going back to AMD.

better question why did you buy intel in the first place?

i just moved from a 14900k to a 7800x3d this weekend. crazy at the same gaming temps of 65c theres no heat from the aio...! guess all those watts was a "its fine" moment. Crazy how the 1% lows went up. I ended never using all those extra cores or and production work and only gaming. I got an amazin x670 carbon board to last me for future cpu updates. Working out so far!

Which motherboards are you using? I tested gigabyte, asrock and msi, msi killed one of my ssd, a common error, but besides that, I was able to activate a negative 30-35 on all my cpus 7700x x2, 7900x and 7800x3d
