Dogs have been an intrinsic part of human lives. In this talk, Chandrima Home, PhD student at ATREE takes a different view from the norm. Her research in the trans-Himalayan regions of Spiti shows the wild side of these domesticated animals where they become a principle predators for livestock. As agro-pastoralism is a principle livelihood for communities in these regions, she finds out that the livestock attacks by the free-ranging dogs cause economic damages that are comparable with those of snow-leopards.
