The Hokulea - Sneak Peek at The Polynesian Voyaging Society's Legendary Canoe - Maui, Hawaii
The Hokulea (Star of Gladness) is a Polynesian double-hulled voyaging canoe that navigates the world's oceans without instruments, only the stars to guide them. This vessel was originally launched March 8th, 1975. On May 18th, 2014, Hokulea embarked from Oahu for "Malama Honua", a three year worldwide voyage. She returned to Hawaii on June 17, 2017. The voyage covered 47,000 nautical miles with stops at 85 ports in 26 countries.
