Makes a good case for just using a big medical red cross tag on the fastener. While not woods survival..don't forget to have both a medkit and ABC type fire extinguisher in your car, folks. Make them both good quality, ample or generous sized, it's $100 for each, $200 for a set of both items and they could save your life or someone else's someday.

This sort of video is why I subscribe to this channel. Bear Essentials is a treasure trove of big brain produce.

i do this on my backpack i wear to work. I don't have any emergency stuff in there but it does have a lot of zippers and compartments so i have different colored cord on the different compartments so I can find what I'm looking for quickly

This is great advice. But i also recommend packing your kit so that you know where it is without needing a guide. Its your kit, afterall.

This is actually a pretty good idea, assuming you aren't the sort of person who doesn't want to be seen.

What knot to secure the replaced zipper tab? And what size parachord?

My pack is generally half first aid, half water. I’m accident prone and I sweat a lot. If someone opens my bag and doesn’t find first aid, they need to go to an eye doctor. Well..even if they were blind I’m sure they could find something of use. How they’d get all packed back up? That’s on them 😂

"sheer panic"
people that don't do this type of stuff: I wouldn't panic I'd stay calm

Anyone that has done this type of stuff: oh yeah you will.

Bonus if you make a slightly bigger recognizable paracord weave pull tab, you'll be able to find it in pitch black darkness easily too.

Google idea, but I prefer a whole pouch which attaches to the outside of your pack with a quick release method. Mine uses releases via Velcro.

Also, if you’re hiking and sustain the kind of injury which truly demands immediate attention, you’ll want a much more robust FAK than the one in this video. Tourniquet, splint, compression bandages, etc won’t fit in that lil Walmart special.

Or keep your first-aid kit on the outside of the pack clearly marked.

Product idea - a first aid / emergency kit that comes with a couple lengths of utility cord for this purpose. Put your name on it and I'll buy it. 😉

The emergency kit, or the first aid kit MUST BE NOT in your backpack-if you are injured, your medical kit must be visible and accessible....
You must not find your tourniquet, your first aid/emergency kit....
If your friend injured-you must use his medical kit-his items(medical kit) for him, your items - for you....group items-for a current group....

My "emergency kit" is ONE roll of gauze, five bandaids, and a handful of ibu/Tyl. lmfao.
But then, I don't even carry a knife. I think my bear spray expired two years ago. You guys are gonna give yourselves ulcers. lol.

I'd like to stress how important it is to cultivate an ability to make good decisions under pressure. Panic will get you killed. I was never a marine, but the folks I know who were have all told me that they spent a lot of time training while under intense pressure, specifically to make sure that when everything went to sh*t around them they could still function at a high level.

Or you just always keep it in the same spot...

Here’s a tip. If you’re in shear panic that often, you need a new hobby.
