This was one of the best game intros in video game history! You could feel the tension because it was the first game where you got to experience the Fallout world prewar. The fact Besethda made the prologue playable instead of a long cutscene was pretty amazing, they wanted you to experience the Fallout in your hands

The voice actor of the reporter did a phenomenal job of carrying fear and disbelief throughout his script. The “My god” was just the perfect line of delivering the terrifying news across the United States.

When i played fallout 4, I did some research and math.

In 2011, they said skyrim was 16 Sq miles, in 2015, they said fallout 4 was half the size, so 8 square miles. The area of total destruction is around a 1 mile radius.

This is comparable to a 15kt atomic bomb, the size of the Hiroshima bomb. Then I checked the usual wind direction in the Boston area, the winds are southwest to North east.

Then with the nuke map site, I simulated 15kt detonation on Framingham. The Shockwave would have not reached sanctuary hills, and the plume of fallout would have been a mile or so wide, and extended for about 15 miles, Lexington would of been radioactive, but not concord or cambridge.

Nora and nate could have safely watched it from their living room window, stayed in their house and been just fine.

Now if you think about it, if the Chinese targeted an incredibly strong military installiation like the sentinel site, and only used a 15kt bomb, then the Chinese probably didn't have any higher yield bombs. Meaning at the least thermonuclear (hydrogen) bombs didn't exist.

Fallout plumes wouldn't have traveled very far, as long as you stayed out of the local fallout plumes, and weren't too close to it when it detonated, all you'd get was an elevated risk for cancer.

But other than the sound happening instantly in the game, everyone looks at it without damage to their eyes, which is totally wrong. Even at 20 miles away, you'd be blinded instantly.
