I did the flowers for my own wedding and it wasn’t as stressful as some are making it seem. Got the flowers and prepared them and made the arrangements 2 days before the wedding and they turned out exactly as I wanted and lasted for days after. I took pictures of how I wanted them arrange on the tables/at the ceremony, dropped them off in the morning and my venue laid them out as I wanted. Continued with the day getting ready as usual. It was more expensive that what these ladies say they spent, but it was less the the quotes that I got from 4 different florists and I was very happy.

I wish people wouldn't leave rude comments. Florists are a thing of the past most people getting married now have lots of college debt and they're trying to have a cheap wedding. I've always known that I want to DIY my flowers. People are acting like it's rocket science. It is not. I have made nice bouquets just from flowers in my yard before. Sorry but not everyone has rich parents and some people just want more bang for their buck or want their exact vision.

I did all the flowers for my daughter's wedding and because I wanted them done ahead of time I used silk flowers in the end-of- summer sale at Walmart and Afloral, for use the following summer.
The color scheme worked well. I was able to take my time with the bouquets and centerpieces. Some of the bridesmaids bouquets also became centerpieces.
I decorated the cake with silk flowers and did the end of aisles too. Its was a breeze on the day.
Now I have flower arrangements dotted around my house reminding me of the day.

If you need inexpensive vases, start collecting glass vases at Goodwill near wealthy areas. $1-2 per vase is worth it vs. $10 per vase that florists pay for the same vase.

Tip: NEVER push your floral foam under the water! It will cause air bubbles within the foam.

I love how salty all the florists are on this video lol. The fact of the matter is that yes, the LA Flower Market is that cheap and open to the public. This is the same supplier for a lot of local florists, who usually get up at the crack of dawn to get the good stuff before it is opened to the public at 8 am most days. Some of these comments are acting like these are going to wilt the second you step out of the market but obviously if you do your research, you can transport them and store them for several days beforehand. It will take more planning, and I wouldn't recommend it for a larger wedding, but if you're trying to save money and your local flower mart is a lot cheaper, you should consider it, especially if you put in the time to learn the basics. On a last note, contrary to what a florist will tell you, flowers rank low on what guests actually remember at weddings, so if you don't have 20 years of floral arranging expertise, don't sweat it. As long as they aren't wilting, your guests probably won't know or care for the difference. At worst, they might think you got a tacky florist or your florist let you get away with tacky choices, if the booze, food, and music are good, they won't remember any floral gaffes.

These comments are so unnecessary if you want to hire a florist do so but don’t shit on their video. This is their experience obviously and just wanted to document and share. It’s what worked for them.

ATTN: I AM A FLORIST. this is completely false information. There is so many mistakes that will just cause your flowers to die. 1)dont push your oasis under water, it wont soak all the way through
2) avoid tulips!! They wilt in oasis. They grow after being cut so they will grow and move from where you put them especially if you're doing them a day before.
3) either spray with crowning glory or water to improve their longevity
4) add hydrangea to your floral foam at the last minute. They need TONS of water and will wilt quickly in oasis
5) research what will last out of water if you're doing things like the hoop or boutinneiers. Some flowers will die within half an hour.
6)keep all flowers as cool as possible until you're going to use them.
7) the cheaper the flowers are, the lower quality theyll be. That sounds harsh but you're paying for quality and longevity.
8) tape your floral foam down to your vessel so it doesnt move during transport
9)dont haggle too much. Its rude
10) if you're using flowers to go on food or even near it, you need to get organic pesticide free ones that are FOOD GRADE. Or else you're spreading pesticides and chemicals onto your food. That glitter babies breath was ridden with chemicals that they spread to the cake and are toxic.
11) SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL FLORIST. we arent out to steal your money. We want to work with you and we want you to leave happy!! Give us your budget and what you want and we'll work on plans and budgeting with you. I cant speak for other florists but we dont jack prices up for weddings. And none of my floral friends do either. But yeah, arrangements CAN BE expensive depending on product you want and size. But like I said before, you're paying for quality and longevity. We are professionals and can provide you with grade A product. And I can guarantee you these flowers were wilted if not dead by the next day. No question about it. Also we're just doing our job man. Just like any of you, trying to cheap us out of our profession is a low blow.

Only florist see your mistakes, to the rest of us you did a great job. Remember, they are inspiring those like me that can’t afford to pay a florist so at least to some of us unprofessionals you gals did

As a person that has worked on floral arrangements and that is still learning one major advice that my horticulture teacher gave me is to NEVER group your flowers yes you can have them near but it is best to cut individually and use them through out the arrangement so it is equally through out and has flow also that how people see the arrangements can see all of the flowers that was used and not just a massive clump of them. Should have taken more time in them in stead of throwing them together. And if you are to do this on your own, massive space in fridges should be taken into consideration to keep them cool and alive until the day. There is nothing wrong in doing this on own but a little bit of research prior is needed. And there is nothing wrong into going to the local florist they are more then willing to work with you and your budget. and the this that I saw wrong off the bat is that you NEVER push down the foam you just toss it in a bucket full of water and leave it be for a good while pushing it down can damage it once wet and not allowing it to soak up the need water amount for the flowers it will cause them to wilt and die faster then anything and it causes air bubbles to be with in the foam itself

Hydrangeas are never a filter. They’re usually one of the focal flowers. Fillers are those small spray roses etc.

Great job! Lots of helpful tips! I worked at a florist and took flower arranging in college. I’m getting married in 2 days. Headed to the flower mart later this morning.

hypericum berries don't open. They are a berry. Putting them in the same section as roses and tulips on how to get your flowers to open is just going to teach someone how to kill their hypericum and be frustrated.

I believe a florist is ideal, if you have the funds. They deserve what they charge...it's hard work. That being said...I did all 4 of my daughter's weddings from start to finish. My daughter's wedding was at a very nice venue, one that only sees professional florists. At the wedding many of the staff asked who our florist was as the florals were some of the nicest they had seen. I was humbled, I said they had been done by me. They were shocked. It WAS a ton of work but it is possible and when budget is super tight, florals are an area where the budget can be shaved DIY. I have design background and an artist so I do believe I have a feel for it but also feel most people motivated can do some simple but pretty designs for their special day....again, no one here in the video is claiming to be an actual florist, they are just trying to help others.

Awesome that you guys took the time to show brides what's out there. Although you two are not professionals you had a lot of great tips. And your flowers were pretty. Great way to save and add a personal touch, with all the costs that come with a wedding today. Took your advice haggled and got all the flowers for all of my centerpieces and bouquets for 200.00 which included roses hydrangeas and cala lily's and flowers no sparkles though ☹ I only paid for the florist to decorate the arch and place card table because I wanted a table fully covered with roses and hydrangeas and didnt know how to successfully execute that decor. Ty guys
