Gregor’s comments on restaurants are true, but we’ve actually had a lot of fun at touristy cafes in Italy. Even in Florence :) Just check the prices before sitting down.

We’re heading to Italy on Wednesday! I have a feeling we’ll be planning our next trip for maybe May or late September in 2026 😀

The Frecciarossa trains are great. I’d much rather take a train than fly. My wife and I took the Frecciarossa all over Italy—from Rome to Florence to Milan to Venice (and we took some regional trains to small towns). We experienced a delay from Milan to Venice, but because the delay was longer than 25 minutes the system automatically credited us—I think it was 25%—for any future train rides. The app is a timesaver as well. Get the app. So convenient.

Also, if you have the opportunity, try out each cabin class. The Executive is super spacious, private, and comfortable. But we were super pleased with basic.

Check what the hotels say about their cooling system when picking your stay. Some hotels say climate controlled and basically it means open the windows to cool the room or ask for a floor fan. If they say air conditioning it means air conditioning but always call the hotel directly to make sure.

Best thing we did in Rome was sign up for a tour at Vatican City, and another for the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Our guides were crazy-well educated about everything. And interesting in the way they conveyed that information. There is no way we could have seen half as much, blundering around on our own in two such culturally rich sites. It also would have taken us twice as long, and we wouldn’t have understood 70% of what we were seeing. Both were operated by The Tour Guy, which we researched extensively beforehand. Can’t, say enough good things about them.

Tip, when coming from Australia to Italy make sure you drive on the opposite side of the road.

Here's a tip, make sure you stay safe and don't end up in a hospital. And make sure you have travel insurance. My wife and I just spent two weeks in two, Italian hospitals. One, a public hospital in Venice. For an American with medical insurance back home will make you feel like you are in an insane asylum waiting for your turn for surgery to appear. After nine days, our insurance company took mercy on us and transferred us to a private hospital near Milan that was amazing and conducted her surgery the next day. The insurance company also flew us home business class as she had limited ability to bend her leg and provided all ground transportation and arranged airport transfers. Beautiful country, don't break a leg...

My wife and i are heading to Rome around Thanksgiving. Your videos are giving us lits of tips to make the most of our stay.

I'd love to take her to a winery near Rome. Any suggestions for a good one? She prefers sparkling and reds. Shes also very interested in buying wine and amaros to take/send home. Are there "liquor" stores? Seems like enotecas are thr thing more so than take away stores.

We’re headed to Italy next year on cruise but spending days in Rome before trip.
Question: in Florence Accedamia museum can you get skip the line tickets? On the museum site I just see dedicated times.
