James McAvoy could play a young Voldemort in “Harry Potter”
In a new interview @JoshHorowitz James McAvoy revealed that he once came close to playing Tom Riddle (Voldemort) in the Harry Potter film series. According to him, discussions even reached the point of negotiating a fee.
"I almost got into the Harry Potter films. It was at the very beginning of my career. I auditioned, and I think they wanted to offer me a fee. At the time, I was barely working, and they wanted to set a fee for me and, I think, ten other actors so they could keep us and give us options later," the actor shared.
McAvoy also mentioned that the amount offered to him was around £40,000, which was a significant sum for him at the time.
"It was really strange. I was offered quite a lot of money. For me back then, it was a huge amount of money. About £40,000 or something like that. I had done very little work, and I think I wouldn’t have been able to do anything else for about seven months."
However, his agent convinced him to turn it down, explaining that other opportunities would arise. In the end, instead of joining "Harry Potter," James took part in a theater production that was unsuccessful—the audience even booed the play, and the fee turned out to be much smaller. Despite this, McAvoy emphasized that he does not regret the experience, as it was an important stage in his creative journey.
