10 Creepy Lesser Known Facts About The Shining - Explored

If we have to make a list of some of the most terrifying and genre-defining horror flicks of all time, The Shining will find itself right up there amongst the best. It was indeed a special effort by legendary director Stanley Kubrick who decided to adapt Stephen King’s popular novel of the same name. He took quite a bit of creative liberty, deviating from the novel, and while the novelist wasn’t exactly pleased with the changes, the movie did strike a chord with the horror fans.
One of the most unnerving things about the narrative is probably the way Stanley Kubrick handles the concepts of isolation and descent into insanity and blends it with horror and violence in the movie. A terrific story helped by some shocking moments, and a heart-thumping final fifteen minutes ensured that this went down in the pages of history as one of the greatest. However, in this video, we will be taking a walk down the lesser-traveled path and bring you the stuff that happened behind the camera – some controversies and some unknown facts that will be a treat for the fans who have loved this classic for all these years.

The Shelley Duvall story is one I knew about before. I know Kubrick was infamous for his countless takes but this was extreme.

The creepiest fact about this movie is the way it crept into peoples’ subconscious to such a degree that the bizarre conspiracy theories got their own movie.

One detail not mentioned is that the hotel, as seen in the film, is not physically possible. One example is that, early in the film, during the tour of the walk-in refrigerator, the side the door is hinged on switches between the exterior and interior shots; upon exiting, the door is now on the opposite wall. There are many other examples.

I'm amazed that the movie took five years to make (13:40). Especially because the book was published in 1977 and the movie came out in 1980. *Three years.*

"before the copy-paste function" actually there were a few electronic typewriters in that time that had a very limited memory which did let them "copy and paste" short phrases like that, over and over.

The saddest thing is that I hated Wendy’s portrayal because of Kubrick directing her.. in the book she wasn’t like in the film.. I only stand it because the actress Shelly Duval really suffered and never recovered.

The best The Shining parody is The Simpsons Halloween episode, "The Shinning" a part of the Treehouse of Horror V (5) in 1994. Hands down! 👍🏾

I'm new to your channel. So, I don't know if you've already done a video about it. But, the movie with the creepiest behind the scenes facts, that I've heard of, are for the film The Omen. I don't believe in supposed "cursed" films. But, the stuff that happened behind the scenes, on The Omen, is really chilling.

I think only half of these are lesser known facts, while the other half are more known.

One of my very favorite horror movies and I never miss a chance to see it. I've always had little patience for all the "theories" about what The Shining's "message" was all about. How about it was one of the greatest horror movies ever? Just that - an awesome horror movie that has stood the test of time.

Error: the blood elevator was a scaled down miniature, not a complete hallway. It is also quite short. This is clear when the blood rises up the glass/plexiglass wall shield in front of the camera.

Danny Lloyd made a cameo appearance in "Doctor Sleep".

If i understood correctly, Jack Nicholson himself improvised the "Here's Johnny" saying, quoting the famous The (Johnny) Carson Show intro. However, there also might be an idea, that The Carson Show was propably Wendys favourite TV show, so...

RIP JOE TURKEL. What'll it be Mr Torrance? "Heeey Lloyd a little slow tonight" We will miss you greatly you did an outstanding job acting as the Overlook Hotel's ghostly bartender! In Kubrick's The Shining. Now Wendy, Danny and Jack remain. Most others have passed on. RIP. 👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻✝✝✝
