Giants of Bass - Bernard Edwards

‘Chic Unique’ was written to represent Bernard Edwards’ bass work with Chic and Sister Sledge during the seventies and eighties. The line features many common elements of his playing style, including a heavy use of chord tones, the use of ghost notes, the use of open string jumps, and the use of ascending and descending double chromatic passing notes.

I recorded this line using a Music Man Sterling SUB Series bass strung with stainless steel Rotosound strings.

Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers are legends. Bernard's bass compositions and arrangements are foundational, iconic and timeless and so are Niles melodic guitar compositions. Both of them are truly inspirational. Chic is one of the greatest bands ever, just a perfect blend of special talent, from the singers, keyboardist, drummer, and violinists. These sounds will live forever!

What a groove. And your rendition's right there in that groove. Excellent work. Bernard Edward's laid down some of the most iconic basslines ever produced. I'm not there yet, but I'm trying to get my board fingering smooth and affectless just like this. Can you share with me some tips on what bass neck exercise I may use going from the fret notes.
