Freak Audio Lab - Beasts and Bugs

Ever since I was a kid I have been fascinated by monsters, making tons and tons of blood dripping drawings and creepy cartoons. As a young man, I remember Jack Palance as Dracula scared the absolute shit out of me. So did Jaws, not to say a dreadful VHS bootleg copy of David Cronenberg's Rabid from Singapore (with distorted colours, making it even more terrifying).

In my teenage years, I was a total horror movie/book buff and read loads of occult writers like Dennis Wheatley and of course anything Stephen King.

During the 90's I spent time playing wonderfully sinister games like Hexen II, Quake, etcetera, and to this very day, I get a great kick out of stuff like Doom, Quake Champions and more.

The main riff of Beasts and Bugs appeared, to my utmost surprise, while being interview by Ola Englund. I thought it was a bit too charming, in an evil sort of way, not to record. So off to work I went…

I adore the creative process of fiddling around with notes, rhythms and sounds until you have something that could be considered music. (Not necessarily good or bad music, just music).

Then, of course, you need some sort of video...

I brought out the green screen and convinced some of the many beasts and bugs living in the Freak Audio Lab to pose a bit. Voilà, yet another home-brewed video in the can. Oh well...

This is what the Freak Audio Lab is about: trial and error, failure/success, explore and have fun along the way.

Thanks for listening. Thanks for watching.

Great playing! Great Sound. Awesome style.
And a clever funny guy!
So glad I stumbled across one of your videos again. Just subbed this time.

So my guitar is naturally that out of tune across the frets? Jeez.

Was hooked when I heard Freak Kitchen like 10-15 years ago...And in this day, you still keep being inspired and come up with new ideas. Awesome! Would be cool if you could share some of your recording techniques...Our drummer has just left us and me and my bass player would like to carry on..Finding a new 'live' drummer is not an easy thing...

Mr. Mattias Eklundh. A man so Freakcore, he plays the drums with his feet whilst chugging out THAT riffage and melody. 😆
