As an avid root beer drinker I can tell you that no two root beers are alike.

The problem is that root beer isn’t consistent from brand to brand, some are sweeter like A&W, some are more heavy on the sasparilla flavoring (Barq’s)

Technically, Dr. Pepper is called Spicy Cherry, in the fragrance and aroma industry. Root beer originated with Sassafras, which is an herb.

It's not even a mystery though. It's a combination of a whole bunch of things which cola and root beer probably come close to but still lacking a few flavors and in more subtle proportions than this simple blend can give you.

Depends on the root beer. Barq's is my fav and I combine it with Coke all the time and it takes nothing like Dr. Pepper imo. But I can maybe believe with A&W (tho I'm not a fan of it).

I have tried this before, and while it's similar, it's not quite the same. I think it just overwhelms your taste buds in a way similar to dr pepper, especially with the carbonation. Flat they taste very different. That said, RC is one part Coke to two parts Pepsi and no one can change my mind.
