I didn't realize this was still a thing. I remember it being semi popular with the Supra guys some years back. Sounds good man!

Transient boost pressure is reduced pretty significantly on gear changes without a bypass valve. So whilst turbo damage can occur from reversion (air going back into the blades and forcing them to slow down against their momentum) the major downside is the slower boost response on gear change when the throttle plate is closed. Not many people are aware of the performance downsides of running without a bypass valve they only think that their turbo will be damaged by the reversion.
