I wish that Tom Seaver was still alive to have witnessed Gil’s induction. He was Gil’s biggest fan & supporter of his HOF worthiness.

You can thank the late legend and Hall of Fame broadcaster Mr. Vin Scully for making this happen, as it should have decades ago.

Gil Hodges joined the U.S Marines in 1943 to fight in the war. Can you imagine any athlete today doing something like that?

12:55 If you're a Met fan, you need to know who this man is, and what he has done for the Mets for decades.
Jay, as Irene Hodges says in her speech here, IS the greatest Met.

I was there that day. And Gil Hodges was the reason. My only regret was my college Roomie, who wished for this day, wasn't alive to see it. Then again, I imagine he was watching from above with Gil Hodges.

I've been to Gil's hometown of Princeton, and the first time I was there I stopped at the public library, I saw a framed photograph of Gil in his Brooklyn Dodgers uniform, holding a bat in his hands.

Maybe the most upstanding player ever to play and, later, manage the game. Great player. Great character.

As a lifelong Mets fan I was absolutely thrilled to hear that Gil finally got into 'The Hall'.
As a lifelong baseball purist he doesn't deserve it. He was an above average player (but not great) for 1/2 his career, an average player for the other 1/2 & a career long defensive liability.
