I just found this. This is great! My mother is Japanese and I never got a chance to learn the language. So I’ve been trying to learn about the last 7 months a little at a time. (I’m 60 so you are never too old to learn a language.)

They do have the same origins, but the Japanese actually got this system from China. It started in Babylon, then it spread to other countries around the world. Actually, most languages use this same system. There was a wiki article about it, but I can't put the link here. If you are interested, please read more about it (◕ω◕)♪
