Sony ZV-1 vs DJI Action 2 vs GoPro Hero 10 - IMAGE QUALITY

In this video I compare the image quality of DJI Action 2 4k , GoPro Hero 10 5.3k and Sony ZV-1 4k and 1080p.
Long story short... the action cameras image quality is rubbish overall...

My guess for action cams was always that there's some sort of artificial upscaling from whatever TRUE resolution the cam could give you. Some brands could do it better than others but since it's always artificial, it just couldn't match other mentioned cameras in any way.

Bro, Ive been saying that for the longest. I agree with you 100%. Yes GoPro/DJI Action all those action cams footage is straight garbage compared to point and shoot cameras. Yes the bigger sensor in point and shoot cameras give you more dynamic range. I think it's all about knowing action cams uses and staying within those boundaries. I like using action cams when I'm being lazy and not wanting to carry the bulkier cameras, then instantly in editing I'm hating myself for choosing it. I always thought the 5K was nothing but a gimmick in action cams.

This needed to be said. I use as a crash cam a Sony nex 5t with a sony pancake lens.

I would suggest using the iphone(or any modern smartphone) as a BTS camera, you may also use a chest mount with the iphone.

Gosh, that comment about image softness came so unexpected lol! I remember when they were selling those transparent boxes to protect regular cameras from water and dirt. Then the cost of sensors dropped and battery technology improved and it became possible to cram a small camera in a ruggedized package. I'm wondering if some issues might be due to the optics that maybe are not truly diffraction limited. But I did not do my due research on this so I'm just guessing. Thanks for this review! Sometimes I'm tempted to get an action camera but I might just stick with what I already have.

Only so much you can expect out of tiny sensors. I still hang on to a couple Hero 7s for BTS or underwater use (I edit for FishTubers) but the uses are few and far between! Thanks for showing your test results!

I just got the DJI Action 2 and I'm so disappointed. I'm taking it right back to Best Buy. I don't understand the hype these YouTubers are def getting paid to say great things about these action cams. The footage looks like 2010 smartphone footage. I don't understand how iPhone footage is so much better when a phone is basically an entire computer in a small package especially in low light. I wish Apple made an action camera because I think it would look way better. My issue with the ZV1 is that the lens isn't wide enough to blog. You need a long selfie stick with it and mounting it like you would an action camera is tricky. Also, the rolling shutter of the ZV1 kills me. Thanks for exposing the truth about these action cams and clarifying they're very few strengths and advantages.

ZV-1 shoots fantastic videos. It's almost as crisp as the A6400 w/ F1.4. It's a lot easier of a rig to use compared to A6400 though. If it's lit well enough, it works great. The back camera on the iPhone 13 Pro is really good too in good lighting.
