Assassin's Creed is an open-world action-adventure stealth video game franchise published by Ubisoft and developed mainly by its studio Ubisoft Montreal using the game engine Anvil and its more advanced derivatives. Created by Patrice Désilets, Jade Raymond, and Corey May, the Assassin's Creed series depicts a fictional millennia-old struggle between the Assassins, who fight for peace and free will, and the Templars, who desire peace through order and control. The series features historical fiction, science fiction and fictional characters intertwined with real-world historical events and figures. In the majority of the games, players control a historical Assassin, while also playing as an Assassin Initiate or someone caught in the Assassin-Templar conflict in the present-day framing story. The series took inspiration from the novel Alamut by the Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol, based on the historical Hashashin sect of the medieval Middle East,[1] while building upon concepts from the Prince of Persia series.[2]

The series's eponymous first title was released in 2007, and it has featured twelve main games in total, the most recent being 2020's Valhalla. Main games of Assassin's Creed are set in an open world and presented from the third-person perspective where the protagonists take down targets using their combat and stealth skills with the exploitation of the environment. Players have freedom to explore the historical settings as they finish main and side quests. Apart from single-player missions, some games also provide competitive and cooperative multiplayer gameplay. A new story and occasional new time period are introduced in each entry, and gameplay elements evolve from the previous one. There are three overarching story arcs in the series. The first five main games follow Desmond Miles, a descendant of several important Assassins throughout history, who uses a machine called the Animus to relive his ancestors' memories and find powerful artifacts called "Pieces of Eden", while also attempting to prevent a catastrophic event said to wipe out humanity by the end of 2012. From Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and until Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Assassin initiates and employees of Abstergo (a company used as a cover by the modern-day Templars) record genetic memories using the Helix software, helping the Templars and Assassins find new Pieces of Eden in the modern world. The latest three games, Assassin's Creed Origins, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, follow ex-Abstergo employee Layla Hassan and her own quest to save humanity from another disaster.

The main games in the Assassin's Creed video game series have received generally positive reviews for their ambition in visuals, game design, and narratives, with criticism for the yearly release cycle, frequent bugs, and shift towards the prioritising of role-playing mechanics. The spin-off games received mixed reviews. The video game series has received multiple awards and nominations, including Game of the Year awards. It is commercially successful, selling over 155 million copies as of October 2020, becoming Ubisoft's best-selling franchise and one of the highest selling video game franchises of all time.

Hey hi hello, at 2:23 I said that I think Valhalla is made for the WIDEST audience possible, like it appeals to the largest group of people. A lot of you are hearing WHITEST... yeah I should've used a different word there. No, I was not suggesting Valhalla was made for white people 😂

When I played ac3 I didn't realize there was a fast travel option so I ended up running everywhere and I think it's why I ended up enjoying the game so much. The snowy forests just can't be beat.

This is definitely YOUR list. It felt genuine. Like you actually had your own opinions. I really appreciate you not pandering for this list.

I’m praying parkour becomes a big part of AC again. I really miss it.

Ac4 was my favorite. I just loved the pirate aspect to it, and it looked pretty good for the time. The music was awesome during combat, too

For me Brotherhood was the peak. I loved recruiting assassins and doing mission where I employed them strategically to take out guards. That is the coolest I felt in the entire series.

AC II came out when I was studying Renaissance art history in high school. Visiting the real Florence, places around Tuscany, Roma, etc. at that time was one of the most magical moments for me, hugely thanks to the AC II setting. I'll never forget that.

weirdly i loved odyssey. i have a massive love for greek mythology which probably made me like it more but i just found the game so beautiful and the exploration system was fun. only downfall to me was a lot of missions were extremely repetitive.

The ending for Black Flag is unforgettable. I know most people's favorite protagonist is Ezio but for me Edward Kenway was just phenomenal. I dont know how they did it

When you said “ac3 has a special place in my heart” I felt that spiritually. I played it so much in middle school and never been more addicted to a video game in my life. Fell in love with it. This is coming from a huge gamer that is about to turn 20 and played video games all his life

I really like how you've clearly explained the reasons why you yourself ranked these games the way you did. You also gain credibility by explaining at the beginning that you weren't ranking the genre-busting offshoots, as well as by letting us viewers know your preferences up front. My choices didn't always line up with yours, but I have nothing but respect for that.

I went to Italy in 2018 and visited Florence, Venice and Rome.
That trip cemented AC2 as my all time fave, the attention to detail to the locations and history left me in awe

Unity is the ultimate vision of what AC could have been and the failure that led us down this path we are now on, for that I will never forgive it.

The first Assassin’s Creed is an incredible game that still holds its own. Very unique playing through it now all these years later.

honestly, for me nothing beats black flag, i fell in love with it since it came out and no other AC game has been able to fill it's place in my heart

AC3 will always hold a special place in my heart because I was actually learning about the American Revolution in school at the time, and it unironically helped me memorize important moments in the war.

I played black flag in the perfect time in my life. Old enough to know how games should be played and how stories should be told but young enough to truly hang on disbelief. A bit like when we all watched Harry Potter for the first time.

AC unity finally getting the recognition it deserved. An amazing AC experience. Its parkour and gameplay was so good that playing the older games sometimes feel slow boring in comparison 😅

Funny you mention Ezio being overpowered in Brotherhood, I think somewhere near the start of the game there are infinite basic enemies that attack you on a bridge, and I spent ages just killing them all creating a massive pile of bodies and I've never felt more badass in a game before.
