How to paint good grapes

Have you ever tried to paint grapes? 🍇

For centuries, artists have included them in botanical studies and still life paintings. They're so visually appealing and add lots of interest to a composition. The spherical form of each individual grape can look very 3D. When you paint a whole bunch of grapes, you can create masses of depth.

They can seem challenging to tackle though, because of the white, powdery 'bloom' that coats them. Fortunately, it's easier to paint good grapes and achieve a realistic result than you may think. In this video, I show you in detail how to tackle them:

This mini class is a short overview of a longer tutorial available to Nature Studio members. The full bunch of grapes is available as a Solo tutorial, complete with reference photo, traceable drawing and list of paints. The Solo tutorial is accompanied by a set of video classes showing members how to paint sections from different areas in the composition. They can then stretch themselves by applying those skills to the whole composition. Members get excellent results!

Thank you for this tutorial. Your art is amazing. Reading your book I feel intimidated but extremely curious if I can ever achieve that level of realism with practice. Thanks for the inspiration!
