My cousin who was part of the U.S. Army he came back home about seven and a half years ago. He did not say anything to anyone and suddenly he became a recluse. Then after a year, during Christmastime sometime in the afternoon, he arrived with presents for the kids. He seemed stable, happy, and confident. He told us his family only about his emotional long rollercoaster, and how his father got him to say yes to therapy. It turns out that he was diagnosed with anxiety and PTSD. He told us how comfortable and happy he felt with his therapist a good guy. Who shares the same culture, the same circles (contacts) and the same likes in music. For the first time in years, we all saw him smiling and enjoying himself, something he never did growing up. Most of us just cried with happiness, because happiness is contagious!
Today he has a girlfriend and a baby but his struggles continue, and we (the family) continue to support him. So, in other words, you are right, you have to "shop around for the right therapist" someone who understands or clicks with you.

Thank you so much for making these videos. I started to get nervous about my consultation because I didn’t know what to expect but I feel much more confident about it now. 💛

But why wouldn't someone just read the therapist's website to get all of that information? Why do therapists bother with consultations? Can a client really get to know a therapist in only 10 minutes?

You stated that you are a person of color for people of color. Does your advice only apply to people of color?

Can you help me? I'm entering my counseling practicum/internship in a few weeks and my professors have told us that we can now do consulting work...what exactly does that look like as a grad student?
