Sorry Brian It doesn't always work for Windows 10/11 to boot directly to the desktop. It's not particularly difficult, but it's only possible if you use a "local user account" on the Windows 10 or 11 computer. If the user account is linked to a "Microsoft account", it is not possible to start Windows 10 without a password. That's because unauthorized people, if they don't have to enter your Microsoft account password, can access your email, documents, and everything related to Microsoft's online services.
Do you have any idea to round the startup with the user account linked to a "Microsoft account?

If you leave the Password text box blank when you are setting up windows 10 or 11 for the first time, it will automatically never ask you for the password..

Thanks Brian. This helped me find why the checkbox option wasn't available.

I have just upgraded to 23h2 Windows 11 and my regedit does not show passwordless/device I went to find funct and searched passwordless it only came back with enable password less but no device folder. I have been using the no password func for years but new windows upgrade wiped that facility out.

Was going to ask what the advantage was - but it's just dropped. Using this method you go straight into Windows desktop at bootup. I don't have a password set up on my home PC but I still have to click 'OK' on the challenge screen - wish you'd said that, nice one.

You can follow the same method as if you're changing the password, but leave the new password blank, to remove the password (local account only).

this is the video you wanna watch. explains the whole process of getting it set up in full...unlike others, who skip steps confusing the shit out of you when you can't find "that" option.

For everyone that was in a position like me (my computer will have a blank screen at the password screen after updates ) and you don’t see the password file here. Signing in password less is mostly impossible for a user that has their Microsoft account linked to it. You can manage your Microsoft account and switch to a “local user” it’s going to ask you for a password to sign in as a local user just keep it blank and BAM you’re good.

I do find that having to log in every time annoying but I guess that's the price to pay for having security. But this is still very good to know none the less should I ever feel the need to remove the security. However what I would like to see is for Microsoft do something like this for updates, so when the system re-boots it automatically returns you back to home screen and not login screen. That is the only time I would like that

What I am curious about is if this is done can you still lock screen by clicking lock or sign out to lock computer to require a password or pin? Or does this circumvent it all?

Great video,
Thank you Brian!

Warning! This process did not work well at all for my Lenovo IdeaPad 320.
After reboot it took me to a screen that said " we are unable to connect right now. Please check your network and try again later."

After the second reboot, an error message window popped up but quickly dropped so I couldn't tell what the error was. Then went back to the same process.

Eventually (several minutes) I was routed to a generic screen with date and time with no indication of log in. Clicking on the screen brought me to a log in screen asking for my password again.

After another lengthy wait I was finally logged into my desktop.

At one point I was not sure if I was locked out of my system. I'll try to revert back.

While trying to revert back, I find that in the user accounts box no longer shows the option of turning on/off user password requirement. After rebooting, again, the mess starts all over again.

Not happy. The boot process is now more than twice as long as it was.

This is a good reminder to all to back your system up BEFORE trying these kinds of things from self proclaimed experts.

I believe I did everything. I only have the one user account, but when it boots it shows me two users with my name, one Admin and the other with no profile photo that is trying to log in, and an error message that the password is false. I switch to my user and give the password and then I get in.
Where is the 2nd user from and how do I control it if I can't even see it under Users?

Hi there, i got confused a little bit, you have removed the password, but it is still password enabled on that account, then after restarting Windows without a password automatically login into Windows? if yes, what was the point?

Might actually do this on 1 of my systems, it barely has any data on it and the data that is on it isn't data that I need to keep secure.

This has been the easiest tutorials I've seen for this so far. Worked for me. Thanks.
