West Africa might be on the brink of war as the regional bloc ECOWAS has threatened military intervention should the military junta refused to step down. So in this video, we'll explain what's happened and why conflict looks like a real possibility.

Our mission is to explain news and politics in an impartial, efficient, and accessible way, balancing import and interest while fostering independent thought.

As someone living in Ghana, I can say that a war is not a thrilling prospect, however it seems unlikely

Maybe Ecowas members are also determined to stop the string of coups in the region before they are next? The other military regimes were so quick in supporting the one in Niger that it seems to me like cooperation in preparation of the coup is a possibility and Ecowas can’t continue to suspend members for ever at some point that would effectively end the whole organization

The Nigerian senate has already declined the war by the president of Nigeria and Nigeria is the strongest in the region and most influential. So its highly unlikely

Two comments: 1. What is your source of information that states Benin, Cote D' Ivor, and Senegal has "offered to commit troops" for Niger? I can't find any other reporting that says this. 2. I think your analysis is accurate that insurgents will come out of this as the winner. Great video, concise, and well spoken. I will continue to watch your channel.

Mali and Burkina Faso can barely fight local extremist groups. I doubt they could help much at all in a full war.

if ECOWAS emerges as a stabilizing force in Africa that, at least, would be an extremelly positive development out of all of this as what Africa needs is native stabilizing force and not to rely on the west or Russia or anyone else to enforce order and borders.

You really managed to tell this perspective of unfolding events in Niger without mentioning the role of France and USA who are protecting their ‘interest’

At least this time the world is at least seeing African wars as something to be worried about.
I still remember not knowing what was happening in Africa while one of largest genocide in history was taking place

It really feels like the world is poised for another major conflict. I'm not sure if it would be a hot war like WW2 or a cold one like the Cold War, but there seems to be a lot of international problems coming to a head. I could easily see the war in Ukraine impacting African stability, what with Russia preventing food to Africa. Could this turn into a bigger conflict?

Somewhere in the world, an arms manufacturer is having a raging hard on for current events in Africa and you can add up Europe to that.

How on earth can you do this beautiful piece without mentioning the reason why France and US are concerned which is the vast amount of Uranium deposits in Niger.

As a Ghanaian I personally do not think a full on inter state conflict will occur. West African governments while corrupt and rather dull at times understand well the cost of war. Nigeria and Ghana supply large amounts of power to Niger, Burkina Faso, and Guinea. A war will only lead to the embarrassment of West Africa as a region, new instability in the region (already happening with the terrorist groups), and an insane amount of bloodshed. Also, no matter how much power the juntas have, once the terrorist groups start blowing up schools, churches and shooting up markets, they'll realize they're way over their heads. Mali and Burkina Faso can barely handle the terrorist groups as is, how the hell are they gonna handle a modernizing and western funded ECOWAS front??? Ofc I could be wrong and if I am, I am kind of excited to help my country in a war. Especially against the Wagner group. Russia and China may have to leave West Africa by force it is beginning to seem.

According to this report this conflict is more about regional powers and jihadists and less about France interest while ecowas is a French led institution and Niger provides a quarter of French uranium and Russia and China have strong interests in the region as well

A desert nation vs a jungle nation would be interesting, but nothing is more stabilising than fighting a war for stability.

The flag you used for Senegal isn't the Senegalese flag.... This is the correct flag- Senegal:🇸🇳....( Green, Yellow And Red with a green star in the middle)....

Rich video.

As a West African and Nigerian, I can categorically tell you, that while we are tribalistic and may fight amongst ourselves, we will never fight for a western cause.
