Is The Red Komodo Better Than The BMPCC 6K Pro

I've been a huge fan of the BMPCC 6K Pro for awhile now and just recently purchased the Red Komodo. I'm curious to see if I am able to get the same look from each camera and if anyone can really tell a difference. Today I find out!

To be honest, I was sure at first that the A cam was the Komodo, and I failed miserably 😅

Watching this I honestly thought Cam A was the Komodo, it just looked more pleasing to the eye and to find out that it’s the 6k Pro just goes to show how great of an image it produces and a lot of money could be saved by just staying with the Pro over the Komodo.

I guessed correct. I'm a Canon guy but I always thought Black Magic had a "thing" about it. Almost bought that 12k camera when the price dropped. If BM builds a nice box camera and addresses all the short comings you talked about here... could be something special.

You can leave the SDI plugged into the Komodo 24/7. You just need to disconnect from the monitor every time you power cycle. SDI just needs to be disconnected from one point, not both. And it doesn’t matter which end. Hope this helps you get over the SDI issue!

Genuinely shocked. I preferred Cam A, and thought it was Red. Making me rethink my next purchase entirely.

Great vid. Both cameras look amazing. I have a pocket 6k. I always thought the biggest difference between the two wasn't really in the image, but in how far you can push the image in post without it falling apart. Whats your opinon ?

BMPCC6k seems to have better highlights roll off, and looks less contrasty. Love it!

At 2:20ish you said the battery life on the Komodo was better meaning you can leave it running more ? Was that misspoken, the Komodo draws 38-45watts per hour, and the Pocket 6k draws only 22-25watts - typically the Pocket last about 30-40% longer on the same battery.

just curious as to how much the Global shutter factors in? is it noticeable?

I preferred the look of camera A in these shots. Was softer and seemed to have better dynamic range and highlight roll off. That said. I know working with red footage has a bit of a learning curve and I suspect things could be done to make make the red footage look better than the BM6k pro. Thank you for the video!

Great video! And the black magic green tint was for sure a problem at first but they added an update to fix it and lets you calibrate it properly

Loved the images from camera A the whole way through! The Komodo has a bit of a muddy appearance and the color detail is less. In the last shot where she's leaning against the wall, you can see how the Blackmagic is picking up all of the various tints and shades of green on the wall, while the Komodo is picking up less.

I have a 6k pro and I thought Cam A was the RED. I used to own a Scarlett. Bottom line is there isn't a significant difference in image quality. Anyone saying is SIGNIFICANT is just lying. lol. Consumers or clients wouldn't know the difference if not asked to force themselves to find a difference. Good video.

I did excellent! You did a great job with color correction, they both look identical. I probably got all the scenes correct because I own a
Blackmagic pocket 6K.. .. I had my eyes on the red komodo, but I'm not sure now. Probably I will invest on the Blackmagic 12K since is Netflix approved.

chill video. Love to see that the 6k pro is VERY close to the Komodo if you know what you’re doing. The tell tell giveaway was the framing lol 6k pro has a smaller super 35 sensor.

I legit didn't even focus on the comparison, I was mesmerised by how beautiful those shots were!! Good job man!

I much preferred the slightly softer images of Cam A, dynamic range in the fridge shot seemed better as well. Also in the final shot on Cam B there is quite a lot of horrible blocky noise/artifacts in the shadows. I was convinced Cam A was the Komodo. Glad to see it's actually the pocket hahah.

I mostly liked A but in some shots B. Usually, I prefer milky blacks and not-so-deep contrast. Btw. great shots and mood, good work! :) Both cameras perform well and those are tools as you said.

I own BMPCC6K Pro and I am all-in Black Magic post-production pipeline. That's where BM cameras and workflow shines. I truly believe whatever brand or "team" you choose the more you can lean towards one dedicated brand more you find benefits and the overall workflow seems solid and faster. Enjoyment is really important when you are creating content and you can only find it by yourself with tools that you enjoy using.

I also failed miserably. I thought for sure cam A was the Komodo. I was trying to force myself to like cam B more because I thought that was the Blackmagic (since I own one) but man I was wrong. Strangely in a few of those shots Cam A displayed better dynamic range as well (like the inside of the fridge). But for the most part they matched perfectly.
