Art historian on Paris' iconic Notre Dame Cathedral

A fire Monday caused extensive damage at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, a Gothic masterpiece and one of the world's most famous tourist attractions. Kevin Murphy, professor and chair of the art history department at Vanderbilt University, joins CBSN to discuss its architecture and history.

Good thing no one was hurt or died during the fire incident which is the most important part. However, it is so devastating that such a magnificent work of art and part of Paris identity was burned into ashes. This is such a tragic moment that the world will remember all throughout history.

Notre Dame was certainly fire-proofed! What should then the donation call? If my house burns down the fire insurance and that is duty in Germany. I do not know exactly in France. But with such a church that is certainly a must!

Also the twin towers were demolished because they were full of asbestos and the maintenance costs were so high that they would have had spend lot of of money. It was no longer worthwhile.

Likewise, the state of france lacked money for that. In one day they have been able to reap 1 billion euros and it will keep on increase during the next days. With such amount of money, they can pay lot of things, make new roads, use for the welfare, and to calm down french people.
