The Rules Of Netiquette For How To Act Online

In the early days of the Internet, there were certain rules that everyone was expected to follow in online forums, web chat and usenet newsgroups. These rules were called "netiquette" and it is something that is sorely lacking in how people interact online today.

Another rule I would add is: never say anything to someone online that you wouldn't say to their face. One of the things that makes forums and such so toxic is that there are no real world consequences to being a jerk. (You touched on this in your last rule.)

Instead of this cookie acceptance shit, we should have Netiquette confirmation pop ups.

I expected something like "never use your real identity"... that was a good best practice

I don't know anything about video editing, but your videos look warmer and I like it.

Just the normal stuff. Go easy on language usage, it could just be a non-native English speaker. Be honest just how well should you do in any other language? Thanks for your patience, future generations will do a better job.

This is by far one of the best and important videos on the tube right now. Hopefully many people are watching it here and after i have shared it. I personally think that Netiquette should be one of the parts in school. Thanks for your good videos. Keep up the good work !

Spot on DT I am 42 years old. And I noticed how people are rude on online forums or social medias. Ok I have not been on any social medias on Facebook and those types of social medias. Only on Youtube I use YouTube for learning. And I remember 10-15 years ago the tone or the way people wrote to each other was more polite. Respect others as you want to be respected !

My first online media social was, the newsgroup in early 1990's. The participants were very educated with high moral characters. I really missed those years. BTW, the newsgroup client was, "gnus" in GNU Emacs. :)

Thank you.

These rules simply don’t apply anymore. The internet is the main way the world communicates. People do or say whatever they like, and honestly that’s the point of the internet. Telling people to act professionally like they are talking to a teacher just isn’t how the world works online. People can act how they want, the internet is a free space.

And also telling people to do their own research before every question is completely unreasonable. Sometimes people know they can get help quickly on a forum or discord from people who know their stuff. Much easier than reading 10 articles and being confused. It is insane to call someone manipulative for asking a question. They are not a leech or a user. That’s insane, completely untrue.

I was actually referred to this video, as a post I placed in a social media group I'm a part of. I had basically pointed out how sad it is to see how quickly some people attack others, and how hurtful it can be. This is spot on!
I'm a big fan of the way you presented the "Rules of Netiquette". Simply put, well stated, and easy to understand. Thank you. I, for one, am so tired of seeing people beaten down after they have placed an honest, kind, and innocent question or opinion. I think a good rule is to also remember that not everyone will have your exact opinion on any given topic... and that is okay! Try and remember to learn something, rather than immediately attack them for their point of view. (Kind of goes hand in hand with not responding immediately to a post... Which I am thrilled that you mentioned! Time does a lot by way of clearing your mind of emotional response!)
All in all, I believe this topic is one that needs to be taught to anyone looking to be active on any social media. Thank you, again, for sharing!

DT you forgot to say about the people that comment "first" on every single thing on the web.
