Sequoiah @projecttreecollard demonstrates how to start your tree collards from seed. Potting soil, direct seeding, containers, seed sowing, and potting up seedlings are all covered in this video. If you are unsure of how deep to plant your seeds, what kind of soil or pots to us, this is the video for you.

Tree collards (Brassica oleracea var. acephala) are members of the brassica family. They are also known as Tree Kale or Tree Cabbage. Their relatives include traditional collards, kale, broccoli, cabbage, brussels sprouts, kohlrabi, and cauliflower. However, unlike most of its relatives, tree collards are perennial. This means that, like a fruit tree or rose bush, they will continue to grow and produce year after year and without the need for planting new seeds or seedlings every year like traditional collards and kale. Tree collards are hardy to about 20° F (-7° c) and in mild climates have been known to live for up to twenty years! They are closely related to other perennial collard varieties grown in Mediterranean, Africa, the Americas, and other countries.

I bought the Big Blue seeds from you in September, and they are now about waist-high and doing beautifully here in Central Florida. I got 100% germination and nice healthy plants. I recommend your tree collards and tree collard seeds to anyone who will listen to me. You can't have a food forest without these plants! Thank you Sequoiah!

Could you do a video on watering, on how to not overwater or underwater in different stages of the tree collards life. Also give advice on if the tree should ever be watered in the wintertime.

Thanks for all you do! I just ordered the new purple magic tree collard you just released, they look so awesome. I have the purple tree collard i got from you at the end of last year and its struggling through my texas summer but its making it. Looking forward to seeing how well the purple magic makes it through our summers since it has heat tolerance.

Thanks for everything!

Would be cool (if you havent already) to make a video showing and teaching how you come up with your varieties and stabalize them and keep reproducing. Is it as simple as picking one grown from seed that you really like then just reproducing by cutting or is there a more intense multi year seed saving approach to develope it?? Anyways a video would be cool just to show your process and maybe speak about some of the varieties and what you did.

Thanks!

Thank you for the demo💜
I will say you should definitely monetize your channel. Full stop. There is nothing wrong in 2024 with monetizing and adding short 10 or 15 sec ads. This a a way of life and you are missing out on the benefits of all of your hard work. Besides youtube is adding ads to more and more videos niw. You might as well get your cut. After all you channel is part of your business sakes funnel. Just saying❤

I'm in zone 7a. When should I plant my seeds inside and when should I transplant them out? I assume I'm too late for this year.
