Gilgal means circles. These are stone circles, like giant footprints. The site has been identified by Adam Zertal as the possible site where the people of Israel camped when they arrived in Israel. Deut. 11:​30 Are they not on the other side of the Jordan, by the way where the sun goes down, in the land of the Canaanites, who live in the Arabah, opposite Gilgal, beside the terebinths of Moreh? Josh 4:​20 And those twelve stones, which they took from the Jordan, Joshua set up in Gilgal. Some 6 footprint sites has been discovered.
