I filled my book entirely on both sides when I was an exchange student in Japan! It's the best souvenir!

So monks had their own gym badges to collect back in the day? And we can now collect those gym badges ourselves? Neat!

Omg omg omg. I asked Shogo if he could do a video on this. I was in Japan (Kyoto specifically) when I asked him because it was by far my favorite souvenir I brought back home. Just to let your viewers know the books can be purchased at shrines/temples for~1000¥ with even more expensive ones the more ornate they get. And the stamps vary from 300-500¥. Many temples or shrines have multiple stamps depending on where in that grounds you visited which maybe in a central location or only done specifically in that location of the grounds. Also I would get one for each, one for temples and one for shrines as I have heard that sometimes the other will refuse to stamp and sign if it has the opposite location's stamp in it (don't know if this is true, but hey one more stamp book was not a problem for me). I can't wait to go back in the near future and get more. I got my first at Tōji temple but missed out at Fushimi Inari (my favourite shrine). Arigatou Shogo and gambare!!!!

You can also get stamps at train stations, if you are travelling around, it might be interesting to get those as well in your train stamp book

You can also get stamps at Train stations and sometimes other public places or events. Japan loves stamps.

Be sure to pray at the shrine/temple and leave a coin offering at the offering box *before* you line up for the goshuin. Otherwise, it's really bad form.

I had no idea about this! I went to many temples and shrines across Japan in 2005. I have a lot of photos but this would have been an amazing memento.

Haha…on my fifth trip to Japan: I saw this stamps service at temple or shine. I went to so many gardens, shrines and temples during my last visit to Japan. My favorite prefecture is Kyoto 🥰

Huh, there was a sidequest in Zelda: Spirit Tracks that entailed collecting stamps from all the train stops in the game. I wonder if this is where the idea came from.

Thank you for the short on goshuin stamps! I collected quite a few on my last trip to Japan in April, and even got some of the limited designs that a lot of temples/shrines seem to do now. They really are a perfect souvenir.

I'm not sure anyone has asked this question yet, but is there a rule about (not) using both sides of the book? I've heard people say it's best not to as the paper might bleed? But others seem to say it's fine?
