The Romans were great sources for this. In fact Britiannia has been described as the ancient version of Afghanistan and Claudius' Triumph in the first few months of the invasion. As to terrorism, the Jewish war, with the Sicarii or Jewish assassin "knife-men", are a great example of an ancient version.
