The e36 is definitely the most underrated M3. It has just the right amount of modern technologies, where the driver still gets feedback from the car unlike newer iterations where the driver feels disconnected. e36 and e46 are the greatest M3s

I still love the E36 most. Best sound with understated styling, and it's just modern enough to drive everyday.

E30 - Started it all - Legend
E36 - The best handling / US version got the weak motor (Still Pissed)
E46 - Great engine / Best looking (I'm bias)
E92 - Best Engine / Large and heavy
F80 - Best Interior / Otherwise nothing special

M Cars are suppose to have a special engine. BMW now re-purposes a regular engine with a more aggressive tune and puts an M badge on the back. This includes the mighty 1M as the poster child. They have lost their way and have watered down the M badge with way too many models lately. Just my $.02

The e92 because of its naturally aspirated v8 engine and that awesome roar it produces at the top of the powerband!

Love my E46 M3. Cant think of any car that I would swap it for for the same money. Perfect engine. Perfect handling. Great power. Squats down the faster you go. Sounds great. Great boot for golf clubs. Comfortable seats. 0-60 in under 5 secs. Nice to drive slow and fast. Drove the F80 and while I liked it it did seem a bit too like a computer game, and it sounds shit! Would love a spin in an E92 M3 though with that DCT gearbox....yum yum

E92 and E46 M3 are the best hundred percent can never go wrong with the S52 and that glorious S65 V8 😍

U cant go wrong with the v8, but my personal all time favorite will always be the e46CSL, pure BMW with no turbos like the f80.
