Make a Quick Quilt in 3 Hours using 9 Fat Quarters

I am going to share with you a quick quilt you can make in 3 hours. It is a simple pattern and takes 9 fat quarters. It is a good starter quilt with minimal trimming. I turned on the timer and with no distractions, I made this quilt from start to finish in 3 hours. Well, except for the binding (she says in a whisper). I will be adding the binding later. I found this pattern years ago and I actually used it to make my first pieced quilt with binding. I am trying to get some quilts made for either a craft fair or my gift stash (which implies I have one) or for charity. I cannot take credit for this pattern as Darlene Michaud did a video 3 years ago. I will put a link below to the original video (warning there is foul language in her video in a funny way, but just wanted to give you a heads up).

Use this easy pattern to display your favorite large print fabric or just for a quick gift. The finished size is approximately 52" x 58".

I continue to struggle with my sound. I used the old faithful microphone for all but the summation. If you can't hear - put the other ear bud in. ;-)

AMEN Sister!!! I got so tired of the fabric snobs in our quilting guild that I left them forever!! My quilts are used! I learned to quilt with my grandmother and old clothes . $14.00 a yard fabric is out of my price range and ridiculous to pay.

Well, I'm gonna give this a try. I was at my cousins, and she asked if i wanted bags of fabric, and I told her no. I saw your video this morning and immediately called her back and told her I'd take her fabric when i heard you say $6.99 a yard at Walmart, lol.

Thank you for being a quilter who uses cheaper fabric. You show us we can still make beautiful quilts with that. Our quilts are loved just as much as a expensive fabric quilt. Thank you for being a regular person like us.

I recently made one of these quilts. It was so easy and I picked up my fat quarters from Dollar Tree.

Slowly getting the courage to try quilting. Thanks for giving me permission to use Walmart fabrics.

When I started to quilt, my quilt buddy would give me yards of beautiful fabric. She said, she would never go to Wal-Mart, yada-yada, But when I asked, her where she found the beautiful fabric, she would say, oh, Wal=Mart..Wait what.. Thanks to both of you. I now have so much fabric, I give it away to friends.I'll be making that quilt, I have 22 fat quarters to use up.

So true about buying less expensive fabric. I've been Quilting for over 30 yrs and would never sugest some one pay the crazy prices to make their first quilt. I still don't. There are plenty of places to get discounted top quality fabrics especially on line. Great video and great advice along with it. Very nice quilt for beginners. I would do a little more Quilting to hold those big pieces together though. But whatever floats your boat as they say. Thanks for the tutorial. 🙂

Great advice about wal mart fabric! That is what I started on! And I am not a fabric snob! Whatever you can get your hands on is the perfect material to use!

This is the first video of yours that I’ve watched and the beginning part about Walmart fabric was all I needed to hear to subscribe. As much as I like the pricier fabric, my growing list of projects I want to do has me on more of a Walmart and Joanne’s budget 🤷🏼‍♀️ everything I make can’t be done in Kaffe Fassett fabric

That’s what I always buy what you can afford. It’s the pleasure of quilting.

I made my first quilt top with this pattern today. Thank you so much! You're the reason I decided I could start quilting.

I picked up holiday print fat quarters at Walmart last year for 17 cents each. Time to thrift a sheet and get sewing!

My late mother grew up during the Depression, and she thought BUYING fabric to make a quilt was crazy, lol. She made a lovely Log Cabin quilt for me out of our sewing scraps and castoff clothes. I have not made an actual quilt yet, but I've been thinking....Lots of fabric stil in this house.

I have TOO MUCH FABRIC! 😵 This will be a great pattern to thin out my stash (so i can BUY MORE!) I buy from walmart every chance i get. My plan is to make lap (wheelchair) quilts for nursing homes in my area. IDAHO, USA. Thanks for your time in making the video! Too cute.

This is how my grandmother and mother would make quilts. When they wanted smaller blocks they would continue doing steps 1 2 and 3 until the blocks where smaller. If they wanted the blocks to be triangular. They would cut the blocks diagonal. Then mix the patterns up and sew.

I watched this almost two years ago, before I subscribed. ( sorry it took me so long, I love watching you and Dia) I kept wondering why it didn't look like yours. Today after re watching, I realized I sewed the fat quarters the wrong way. 🤣😂It still came out nice and my sweet bestie loves it. 🥰🤩😍

What a life saver! I'm an elementary teacher & don't quilt as often as I'd like. I just finished a rag quilt for my newest granddaughter for Christmas & was looking for a quick quilt idea for my 9 year old granddaughter. This is it! And yes... it's Dec. 17th & I still have 3 more days of school before break. I'm heading to Walmart right now! Thanks so much!

This was so fun to watch and I love the disappearing nine patch. For great fabric options I go to thrift stores and check out the sheets. Then I look at 3x blouses. Stuff like that. I found a perfect flowery sheet for a quilt backing recently. Thank you for the video

It's interesting to hear this attitude about Walmart fabric amongst American quilters. From a British perspective, let me tell you, you guys in America are BLESSED by God to even have the option of Walmart fabric! Our supermarkets here do not routinely sell cheapie fabric. Quilting (unless you're recycling) is nearly always an expensive endeavour and quilt/fabric shops are few and far between, even in London. I went on a trip to Florida years ago, and when I saw the fabric in Walmart I thought I'd died and gone to heaven Lol!!
