Thank you. I was gifted an old guitar. Not too old, it’s one of those beginner guitars that a relative never played longer than a week. It sat in a closet for ~5 years and the strings aren’t too good. Most guides went over my head and this was perfect

Thank you. I especially enjoyed the analogy to the automobile electrical system... it put things into a logical perspective. I learned new things from this video and knowledge is the only instrument of production that is not subject to diminishing returns. Now, when I enter the music stores, I won't be staring in confusion at the string selections, rather I will be noting the comparisons..

Very informative video. I only use D'Addario Balanced Tension NYXL. Best strings hands down.

There’s a name I haven’t heard in a very long time. Steve worked on my gear when I lived in Langley. From what I remember he always put D’Addario’s on my LP’s.

I want to hear them that’s why I watch videos not to hear people talk about them. Super informational. Make one with you playing them

I like 0.11 or 0.12 Fender strings, but I usually tune my Tele and my Strat in D standard or D# standard.
My semi-hollows on the other hand, I tune in standard E, or drop D.

D'addario is my fave, and the best in my opinion. They will last twice (or thrice) as long as the rest, stay in tune longer, and sound so good.

Hey! So I just learned that D'Addario has a string recycling program ('Playback')...but I think that it is only in the US. I'm trying to contact Long & McQuade (in Canada) to see if we have a similar program in Canada. I'll keep you posted!!

As a guide, use nickel plated steels if you change your strings every 3 months. Nickel plated need changing every 6 months, and stainless steels only need changing every year. Their downside is stainless are hard, and will grind brass fret wire down. I use stainless on all my guitars now.

If you have broken just 1 string, can you not just replace that 1 string? I cannot seem to find anywhere that sells a single string!

The guys from CHiPS look pretty good now.

Maybe worth mentioning that if the guitar has a tremendous replace the strings with the same gauge that came off it. Otherwise you run the risk of the tremendous being unbalanced and it won't stay in tune. Most manufacturers will put on their websites the factory gauge.

I learned today that you're in BC! that's awesome! I live in North Van and am about to start getting into Guitar, been watching this for a long while now. Been a great source of inspiration to get me going on this hobby. (electric by the way)
