"Don't assume malevolence when stupidity suffices." 👍
I read that sentence years ago and followed it since. So helpful. It helped me to prevent or defuse so many potential conflicts. But you oftentimes have to implement it consciously. It may not be what you feel at the moment.
I also could observe the opposite effect on people that automatically jump to the worst conclusion. And then they get angry and bitter. And there is not much you can do about it.
That trait appears malevolent in itself. But then again, it may be ignorance. 😉 Those people tend to get angry about their toaster when the toast comes out a little too dark...

add expectation blindness to this list. People refuse to see what's in front of them because it doesn't confirm their expectations.

I agree with this statement. Although there is another statement that Jordan often makes when he sees something happen three times in a row he assumes there’s a pattern and it has to be investigated. Once or twice sure, but three times with stupidity that harm to others seems more like malevolence to me then stupidity.

Would you rather your enemies harm you deeply through stupidity, willful ignorance or malevolence? Would it make you feel better knowing which it was?

This is exactly why I get mad at people who choose to not be curious about literally anything. It’s because it’s a stupid decision that leads to stupid mistakes. Not because they’re being malicious, but because they have the gears and don’t use them.

the problem though is the great evils of the world use stupidity to hide.

Most of the time that is excellent advice the problem comes when you start to apply that to a regime that has a habit of doing bad things over and over stupidity/ignorance can’t explain some of it will full ignorance can explain more, but there is an unfortunate amountof malevolence that explains an unfortunate amounts.

Yeah it does. Me too, I'm sure. At least I'm trying. That'll get overlooked.

Whatever...

Yeah but that’s what triggers me, people who have no self-awareness.

If Peterson can't connect some of these dots, then that's willful ignorance. Especially today. AJ was right 95% of the time

I believe that this is Hanlon's Razor.

I say trust your gut.
That gut is God's way of telling you something is wrong.
If you don't sense malevolence there, then it isn't. Real simple.

Yes but it changes when you tell the person what they're doing wrong because then it becomes willful blindness. You can only be stupid for 2 reasons, either they don't know or they don't want to know, so when you inform them then they have no excuse unless they're wanting to be ignorant.

I think most of the willful blindness, that amounts to malevolence is excusing the stupidity. Or worse Institutionalizing it. There’s about 10% of truly rotten players, but most of it is excusing incompetence.

Study conspiracy because if you pass it off to incompetence, you're never going to realize you hold the lever of power to conspire with others against your enemies.

to always assume malevolence is to show that you think way too highly of yourself, to think a mistake isnt possible can only mean you dont believe youre capable of one

Were they mistakes? Sometimes it's just an "I don't give a F***" . Gotta love them... really. The Bible tells me so.
