Even if this isn't canon, the personality of the characters really feel fitting to the story, and viable for real lore.

And of course the Captain, absolutely immaculate representation of a skilled and wisened veteran, someone that catches onto even small details like in the preparation of Safe Travels and the unspoken danger he was requested for.

It's very rare to see this kind of quality fanmade storyboarding and world-building, let alone with the accuracy to truly represent the morbid world of Risk of Rain..


Now it'll be time to see how the Bandit's sneaky tactics gets him on the ship. Imagining it is one thing, visualising it is another..

I once tried to animate the mercenary as someone who rather than just being a sword for hire was someone who really liked his job. The scene was him doing a job set to "Life is dream". And it ended with him saying this "The pay is erratic, the hours are all over the place and every day i may you know what? I'm happy". So i like stuff like this.

Heck, the dialogue with Captain and Commando absolutely astonished me. I loved watching Captain dig deep into why Commando wants to take the mission, only to be lied to.

love how commando masks the ptsd-inducing mission gone wrong with telling a story of a relationship that he messed up. an awful combination of survivor's guilt and post-traumatic stress disorder making him feel the need to ALWAYS be braving the unknown. good story telling man

this has retroactively made playing as commando so much more melancholic.
just some man escaping from one set of horrors only to be met with another hell.
i always liked to imagine each of these people had thier reasons for taking up crew on the safe travels, but to see it rendered so clear really adds a lot. thank you for your amazing hard work

The amount of subtle metaphors and moments of just sheer foreshadowing and tension are fucking insane.

I cannot overstate this. This is the most underrated thing I've ever seen on the internet. Seriously, the quality is so high, I have no idea hoe it hasn't reached at least hundreds of thousands of views yet, because it deserves a million, minimum. The animation is incredible, able to give off so much personality and emotion in characters that don't even have visible faces, and also showing many details that most others don't do ( like the head nod at 1:23 ), adding more depth and showing the care that's put into it all. Not only that, the direction for how the scenes are structured combining the cinematography with writing, applying actual Hollywood-quality shot perspectives (for instance, Commando's foot moving when he starts getting nervous telling about the incident, or Captain's helmet slowly transitioning into Commando's) also makes this so much more polished and overall better. In addition, the dialog and the VA's dubbing is incredibly well done, demonstrating personalities, estabilishing tones and developing the scene/story in a way that is just unreal. Truly, in the most genuine way, impressive. The definition of 10/10.
