When I was playing Half-Life 2 for the first time, I thought it was the vent I have to go through.
I spent hours trying to build barrels into a ladder (I am not smart), and finally, I was there.
I was there and I was DISAPPOINTED!

Fun fact, i actually did the staircase long ago. Took me about 30 minutes lol. If you are on the second barrel, physics glitches out and you are getting wobbely as hell. Also in my version there was a empty wall and just light comming out of it as you were outside

I actually climed over the security guard on my first play through because I didn't understand what he said, and didn't know what to do. I climed on top of the trash can, and crouch-jumped over him.

I remember spending the better half of my day trying to get up to that suit module since I mistakenly thought it was the way forward and even attempted to go up the second vent before looking up a walkthrough and realizing it was all for nothing. Fun times.

I stumbled upon this vent today. Initially, I noticed the energy module and grabbed the barrel to help me jump up to the vent. Once there, I realized there was enough space to stand. To my surprise, I spotted that opening out of reach. For a moment, I thought about gathering all the barrels to stack them and climb, but I quickly dismissed the idea—it would’ve been way too much effort. Thanks for the video! I would’ve been so frustrated if all that work had gone to waste. xD
