Gary Payton's Second NBA Game (9 Points, 6 Assists, 3 Steals vs. Isiah Thomas)

November 6, 1990 - The No. 2 overall pick in the 1990 NBA Draft, Seattle SuperSonics guard Gary Payton showed glimpses of the brilliance that'd lead to a 17-year Hall of Fame career in his team's early season matchup with the two-time defending champion Detroit Pistons. While Payton's statline was relatively pedestrian—nine points, six assists, and three steals—reigning Finals MVP Isiah Thomas' struggles (10 points on 3-of-13 shooting) should have served notice to the rest of the league that Payton's defensive prowess was as pestering as advertised. Payton's contributions yielded a 100-92 SuperSonics win, just one of two losses handed to the Pistons in their first 15 games of the 1990-91 season.

Isiah Thomas was on such a high level, that would be like comparing an ant to a lion... this was like a preseason game to the Pistons early in the year, the games count but it's everyone else's big game.

I miss the old days of the NBA where a foul was a foul a travel was called and where referees fixed games.

GOOD GAME . YOU COULD SEE THAT GARY PAYTON COULD OF BEEN PLAYING THIS WAY MORE OFTEN EARLIER IN HIS CAREER IF COACH KC JONES WASN ' T SO HANDS 🙌 ON . LIKE ALL PLAYERS THEY NEED THE GREEN LIGHT TO PLAY FREE AND. MAKE MISTAKES . ESPECIALLY, THE STARS AND THE SUPERSTARS .>🎤 🏀🗑️
