In recent snap elections in Europe, the right-wing experienced setbacks: in France, left parties surged ahead, pushing the far right to third place, while in the UK, the Conservatives suffered their worst-ever defeat. However, a closer look at the results reveals a more complex picture. While resistance to the right-wing is evident, it raises questions about whether this signifies a true decline of their parties or ideologies, or if other factors are at play. This week on Let Me Explain, Pooja Prasanna examines what these election results in France and the UK mean for right-wing politics and compares them with the recent Indian parliamentary elections.

It means one thing only. Democracy isn't stupid. People don't appreciate men becoming gods. You don't get to fool the very crowd that gave you power.

It's not about being left wing or right wing - parties aligned to both sides may be equally stupid. It's about responsibility and actually helping the citizens of their countries rather than brawling each other for ideological differences to gain more votes. The common people have started to see that, that's all.

There is no pushback, this is a hare brained analysis. Everybody knew UK was goi g to Labour for a while. France also has wedge between right left and centre and in India we only stopped Modi because of UP. Pretty soon US will get Trump and decisive move in Europe to the right is starting. Things are gonna get ugly soon

But in France National rally increased their vote share. Look at UK elections, people choose not to vote. That's not good in a democracy. Its the failure of system which we call Democracy.

There has been no fall of right wing.... infact its perhaps now being corroborated by people that both left and right wings have double standards

Please don't misrepresent. BJP is nowhere close to what right-wing is in US, France and UK.

Which world you are living in It is clear as a sunny day that right-wing in the rise in the EU in the US and I would not say in India it declined because Modi was elected third time Frist time in Indian democracy

Their policies don’t look far-right at all. They are simply right.

Lenin is Russian, but there are statues of him all over the world.

This never happens with the right wing, because it is about local "pride".

The global left is far more united.

One cannot even put india and France in the same sentence. Civil society in France was on the streets protesting while Indians were hoping for a change that even the opposition were reluctant to tangibly define. And they wont. In the context of India it is ridiculous to frame a left wing right wing argument as both central opposition parties are not strictly either.

First time I'm seeing a Right Wing Party in India continuously winning third term but Media is portraying it as decline.
Come on guys, have some common sense.

The right wing in UK n India is more centre - right ideology whereas in France it was far right! While Conservatives which is centre- right party lost to Leftwing Labour, far right party Reform gained a lot of votes. Btw, Labour vote share percentage hasn’t gone up but their seats have gone up which lead to them winning.
