Mexico started the game with a sensational finishing by Giovani dos Santos. Cuba tried to create dangerous chances using aerial attacks, but didn't succeed. Mexico always had more easiness to produce the attacks and had the opportunity, in a penalty, to score 2-0 in 20 minutes. The superiority continued in the first half, with the Cuba defense pretty weak and giving so much spaces to the home team, in one of those following chances, Mexico scored the third. The goal difference could be a lot bigger than just 3-0, and it was much one-sided for Mexico.

From the American point of view this was a match between the Wall and Nukes.

Politics aside, this was a total domination by Mexicans. First, very beautiful volley from Herrera after great pass from Dos Santos at beginning provided a comfortable situation for Mexico going into this match. Then two goals by Hernandez within 30 minutes of the match - first from the penalty (very late tackle by defender) and second within the box with strong shot. Keeper had no chance preventing all these goals from happening. The rest of this match was Mexico simply destroying Cuba in every aspect of the game (statistics show it clearly). I feel like they could score more, but they didn't want to embarrass opponents to much, especially since this was first fixture. In other matches Guyana started their qualifying campaign strong, beating St. Vincent and Grenadines and Curacao drew with Mexico's biggest opposition - Jamaica. Good job JCA! Deserved like from me to you :)
